braided lines part II
Thanks to everyone below for all the input about braided lines. I still have a few questions though, what are the right knots to use, where can I learn them, and why are they necessary? Right now I have 30# on my bobber rod for springers, maybe I should have gone 50# or heavier. Anyway, too late now, I am going to have to stick it out for awhile with the lighter stuff. Im running a 20# mono leader with that. Got skunked on the Sandy yesterday, hopefully the water will clear a little and Ill get some hookups tomarrow and put that line to the test! Shure would like to be using the right knots when that happens though!

Re: braided lines part II
I don't know if I can explain it as good as showing somebody but the knot is us goes like this:
It is very simple but I have taken halubut nearly 300 lbs on 100# line with this knot.
Make a loop, pass it through the eye of the swivel, make an overhand knot with the loop but before you tighten it down pass the swivel through the end loop. All this probably doesn't make any sense without seeing it......I think it's called a pallamar knot.
If you have a chance stop by Fishermans and ask one of the guys at the reel counter to show you a good knot to use, or over on the Sandy maybe you could swing by Jacks Snack & Tackle and see if someone there can show you.

Re: braided lines part II
You should use the tough line knot on your braided line.Go to Fishermans and they have a printout to show you how to tie it.Its an east knot and I've never had it break !!!

No need to go anywhere, lots of info can be found searching the web.
David is correct, one of the best knots going for braided and mono is the palomar knot. I use the palomar the majority of the time to connect leaders to swivels. Check out the attached link, lots of good info.

Re: braided lines part II
Funny you should ask. I was loading my ancient steelhead spinning rod last night with Spiderwire and I needed to figure out how to attach it properly to my reel. So I went to Spiderwire.com and found the answer there.
Can you believe that ME, Mister "Dances with Trout", is toying with the idea of actually trying to fish for salmon and steelhead again?

Re: braided lines part II
The best knot to my knowledge and by test at Berkeley's lab is the one produced by Joe Littles Tie Master Tool.
Go to:
www.tie-master.com
You can read there what this knot did for Berkeleys Fireline.
I also love it for mono!

Re: braided lines part II
SRF,
When I TUFF Line first came out Fisherman's had handouts for a knot produced by the company that makes Silverthread line. I think it was designed for mono or dacron but it sure is killer to tie braided lines. Stop by OC and see Gary Frogge and I bet he'll know the knot I'm talking about. Be sure to ask him if he ever got to see Tommy Lee Jones when he was in town.
Tight Lines,
Get Bit
