Default Harriet Lake

Headed up the Clackamas and stopped off a few spots with my 5wt looking for some trout, first stop hooked a 8 inch steelheads smolt so picked up and left, decided to go to Hariett Lake had never been. Had the tube with me so I blew it up and hopped in the lake. There were a few rsing here and there but couldn't manage to pick anything up?.
The pack of people on the bank plunking powerbait picked up quite a few. Anyone fly fished this lake before? Whats the deal? Still to cold or what? Although it was nice to hit some water was the most un-productive day of fly-fishing in my life....usually i do some "catching".

I fished Harriet for the first time two weekends ago and did pretty well. I fished against the weed lines pretty deep and got 2 browns in the 15" range and a bunch of planter rainbows. Low and slow seemed to be the key there. It was nice to see some larger fish in there.

Harriet lake is a nice little lake that holds nice trout. I have caughts browns there and the Largest native Coastal Cutthroat trout in years. But the garbage laying in the lake where the river runs in and the crowd sort of turns me off to it. When I go there it is usually Feb. March.

My one and only time up there I saw 2 guys get into a fistfight, caught zero fish and darn near FROZE. I've heard guys catch some fish on the near end in the stumps but I didn't. Lots of powerbaiters, too. That was just one time and it looks like other guys have had more luck.

Did you try changing to different kinds of bugs? I fished a local lake recently and did OK with a floating line and caddis, but upon switching to an intermediate tip with an olive wooly bugger, I couldn't keep the fish off. I was trolling off of a pontoon, that probably helped.

I was up there last week on Thursday or Friday. It was the first time for me fishing from my pontoon, so let's say I provided quite a bit of entertainment for the other fishermen.

I was really just there to try out my new rod and the whole pontoon thing, so I wasn't disappointed when I got skunked. I talked to one guy in a kyak that said he limited.

I fished olive Bugger by the floating logs and the only fish I saw were the ones lying on the bottom after the y were done stocking the lake.

SO has anyone had success fly fishing this lake? or is it strictly a bait and hardware gig?

Barroom,

Some guys must. I see a lot of guys up there with fly lines. I am a pretty poor fisherman, so I wouldn't judge my lack of success as the norm.

Also I will take you up on that offer in the reply to my PM in the next couple of weeks. Thanks!

Ted

In my post above, I said I had pretty good success at Harriet. When I was there, the fly guys were easily out fishing the bait guys. Of course it might be different on stocking day...
