Default 1985 Johnson 80 Jet a 115??????????

I have been checking around for a liner & impeller for said motor above & have been getting the "NO 80hp made in 1985", then had a guy tell me that it is actually a 115 hp motor with a jet (80 Jet). Is that for real?????
I am a first time boat owner (been a bankie for more yrs than I care to admit) so can only go on what's being told. Thanks, Jim Sr

Sounds right, my 80 HP Yamaha Jet has a 115 Powerhead, and is actually labled as an 80.

I am suprised it is labeled an 80 in that era. I thought only in more recent times they derated the HP when it was jetted and labeled them as the derated power. Rule of thumb is 30% HP reduction running a snail shell jet vs. prop.

That's what I thought also early models were 30% lower than labled, that explains the 34 mph by GPS with an 18' flaybottom sled. I did'nt think a 50 horse would skoot like that!!!!!

It has been confirmed the motor is a 115, took it in to a marine shop & they verified it. The liner is ordered & they will sharpen the impeller there. Thanks for all the replies & advice. Jim
