Steehead Vest??
I am new to Steelheading and could use some advice on steelhead vests.
Traditional Vest, Chest Vest...etc..? Not sure I need all the storage some offer. What about wading jacket? I currently fish corkies, and some spinner/spoons. Hot shots are catching my eye now as well. I am a pretty big guy and prefer to travel light. Breathable would be nice. Looking for quality product.
Thanks in advance for sharing your insight.
PS. Good polarized glass recommendations would be helpful: $50-100 range.

Re: Steehead Vest??
When I bank it I prefer the standard vest. I don't use the short fly type vests myself.
Basically, I try to find a combination of small Plano boxes that fit well in the pockets.
Good luck!

Re: Steehead Vest??
I use a army surplus gas mask bag.
It's cheap and can carry alot of stuff.
When wading I can throw it on the bank and not be incumberd.

Re: Steehead Vest??
i would suggest a fanny pack. that is all i have used for the past 5 years. i buy the cheap camo ones from Joe's for 9.99 and use those little plano boxes to put all of my stuff in there then throw them in the pack and you are ready to fish. fanny packs are the way to go everything is right there. no searching through lots of pockets like i used to. that is my opinion.

Fanny pack and surplus gas mask bag are good ideas. I have a small shoulder bag that would well.
Thanks

Re: Steehead Vest??
This will hold two Plano 3500's in each front pocket with room for lots more gear elsewhere. Attached to the rear of the pouch made of netting is an insulated compartment; this part is worn on your back. I find it to be much more comfortable and handy than most vests.

Re: Steehead Vest??
Here are some good polarized glasses. Oakley I use the Half Jackets and are very happy with them. Don't pay any attention to prices on Oakley's web site. They say $180 for mine when I only paid $109, These are some good glasses with interchangable lenses. Lenses will run you from $25 to $45 a set.

Filson makes an excellent chest pack. I got one about four months ago and love it.

Re: Steehead Vest??
I think I've tried evrything - fanny pack, multi-compartment fanny, shorty and full vest. The full vest holds the most, weighs a lot when full, but still the best. Of course, I'm one of those guys who has to carry everything possible while fishing!

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">I saw the Filson on Cabelas and was curious. Come in XL sizes as well. Looks like a nice setup.
Are they available locally - Portland/Salem area?
Thanks

Re: Steehead Vest??
I don't know if I should share this but being a big guy that fishes from the bank I have found myself in the water a couple of times. I don't consider myself gracefully challanged but in the last 3 months with the water level up I have sliped twice with one resulting in a full face on dunking. I know were a Sterns inflatable vest. It has good storage and I'm not as young as I used to be and like the extra safty factor. Just a thought.

Re: Steehead Vest??
I use a Filson Tackle Pack and love it. Good storage, practical to get on and off. Works with shirt, coat, waders. I have waded nearly chest deep, and the Filson Fabric kept the insides dry....WOW.
You can find them at the Northwest Armory, in Milwaukie, on McLoughlin Blvd...also sometimes on Ebay.
Good Luck.

I noticed the Filson Fowl Weather Fishing vest at http://www.filson.com/1433.HTM in addition the Filson Fish Pack.
Anybody have experience with Fowl Weather version?
Thanks
