broadheads
anyone out there use these?
http://www.magnusbroadheads.com/home.html
Im switching heads, again. i tried these last year, but the pack i got was defective. They flew horribly. I was in contact with someone from the company who was insistant that my bow was out of tune or I had bad arrows, but i was getting bullet holes through paper. It was ultimately determined that my magnus heads were defective and my money was refunded. It was getting down to the wire so i went and got some wac'ems, which flew pretty close to my field points with no tuning so i called it good and hunted with those. I saw two deer killed with wac'ems last year. Both passed through, but came out missing blades. one deer dropped in its tracks due to shot placement, the other went a ways with NO blood trail, the head having passed through with only one blade intact. It scares me to think what would happen on a bull.
So, basically I want to find a stronger head that will fly well and tune easily. I like the Magnus design, but dont know if they are worth another try given my past experience. Guys rave about them over on bowsite though.
Im also considering slick tricks. they seem touph as nails, although not cut-on-contact, which I would prefer.
Basically, I want to know if others hae had issues with the magnus heads or if my problems truly were the result of a defective pack of heads. Comments on the slick tricks would be appriciated as well. thanks!

Re: broadheads
I got a 3-pack of those for back-ups in my box and i thought they flew good. I know for a fact that there sharp. Last year I was pulling one from a block and just about sliced my finger off.

Re: broadheads
You know, i might very well end up going back to Thunderheads. Thats what I started with, then I got off on this quest for a better broadhead.
originally i wanted to find a cut-on-contact, hence the magnus and wac'ems. Now im considering slick tricks, but thats right back to a chisel tip, so who knows, maybe Ill save my money and screw the thunderheads back on and call it good.

Re: broadheads
SRF...have to looked at the Razorcaps? They're a screw in version of the Wensel Woodsman head that I use. The WW is long and slender and fly like darts from my recurve. But they have lots of cutting surface and make a big bloody mess on contact.
Good luck!

Re: broadheads
Hey thanks silverpicker,
someone else was telling me that. It was a guy in borken Arrow who just got back from Africa. Said they were awesome. Im still learning the whole bow tuning thing, so that may be an issue for me, but Ill give them a look. Im not shooting the fastest setup in the world, so it shouldnt be too much of an issue.
Yeah, i just checked those out on Cabelas. they look super nasty. If they fly good ill give them a go this year.

Pretty much what I have used since 1987 ive killed 15 elk, 45 whitetails 6 mule deer, 1 blacktail, 3 bears, 1cougar,14 javilina, 2 turkey, 3 coyote and Im sure im forgeting something. IMHO there the best head out there.
That said I shoot magnus out of my recurve and they fly great. I have found that two blade heads tend to plain out of a fast compound. 290 fps+ At least the do out of mine.

No The biggest buck i killed was a 11 pointer maybe a 130 class buck it was far from book. I grew up in michigan so We had multipale deer tags (privet property) Lots of does and eater bucks Dad didn't like rifles so we bow hunted from October to January. I still go back to fill the old mans freezer. The Javalina came off the wifes uncles place in Texas just outside Larado 27,000 achers of cactus and snakes. I even seen a zebra out there once. I was like ***????? aparently there are a lot of african animals on the place. I'll have to post some pics the next time I go.

Re: broadheads
I was told I wasn't going to be able to get my Thunderheads to fly because of my bow speed,i but I screwed one in and shot 20, 30, & 40 yds and was hitting my mark pretty consistantly. I don't really think it matters what you shoot as long as your bow is fine tuned, good thing theres some time left before the season. I had to take my bow in last night and get all my strings replaced. Hopefully There wont be too much tuning involved again when I get it back!

Re: broadheads
I think that you should take a look at the Shuttle T's broadheads also. You won't have to change a pin, no blade loss, and great blood trail. This is the best blade that my group of friends has tried out. It is one nasty broadhead.
