Default Got Skunked Today

I'm not ashamed to say it but not happy about it either. Floated WS to TC on the D and caught salmon and stelhead smolts plus some whitefish (one was 3-4#). Saw no Salmonflies or much of anything else. Absolutely the worst day of trout fishing I have ever had on the Deschutes river in any season.

That said, great day to be out and my dog figured out how to swim today.

Poor report I know but there isn't much to say.

hey, any day on the river waving a stick around is better than a day at work (unless being on a river waving a stick around is your job...)...

my fiance now knows not to ask me how the fishing was (it'll always be "great") but to ask my how the "catching" was....(sometimes, not so great)...

hey, those whitefish will put a nice bend in your rod....

Any report is very helpful. Thanks, Sam. I had the worst day ever on that same water in 20+ years fishing it last week.

I fished above Maupin this afternoon and did real well. Stoneflies are starting to pop pretty good and the fish are getting active. Right now you are going to catch 90% of your fish within three feet of the bank. I used a #8 long shank tied down caddis with orange body and landed about 15 fish. Again, they were all within three feet of the bank.

Phil,

I stopped in at the Riffle and they said fishing has been extremely slow this year. I agree with that. That said, I will be back on my next day of.

I had an extremely slow day in that same stretch a few weeks ago. I was catching smolts like crazy but the redsides were far and few between. Perhaps most of the redsides are still spawning in that stretch?

I saw a lot less spawners than usual.
