Smile where to out of garibaldi

I am going out tomorrow, weather permitting, for the first time and was looking to do a little bottom fishing. In my internet research I have come up dry. Not looking for hotspots, just some general areas. I have a blue/silver seahawk, so say hi if you see me. I went out and fished the north jetty today with no luck and did not see any taken. I moved a couple months ago and look forward to getting to know the area.

Three Arch Rocks, 7 miles south of the harbor, is pretty consistent for bottom fish. Look on the chart and you will see Arch Rocks, and the rocky bottom areas of the chart. When you get out there, you can line visually line up the three rocks. The underwater reefs lie roughly on this line. Look for high spots and clouds of fish on your fishfinder.

One thing to be aware of is the wind direction. If the winds are out of the north, you will be fighting them on the way home. Also beware of crossing the bar -- it is one of the most dangerous on the coast.

Thank you for the information. My first trip across the bar this morning was quite scary for me, but my father in law (who has crossed many bars many times) said that it was not that bad. For the second day in a row of trolling the north jetty I saw nothing caught. Maybe next week.

South to Three Arch Rocks or north in front of Cannon Beach. The bar usually is unpleasant the last half of the outgoing tide unless the ocean is very nice. Watch for the rough bar lights at the CG station and get a bar report before heading out.

There is some good spots off 3 arch for sure. Its a pound back if you dont leave early though. Also from Cape Falcon to Haystack rock all along there is some good spots as well. About off Arch Cape (which is a small community north of Falcon Cove) there is a good lingcod hole in about 135ft of water watch for the out cropings on the depth sounder have done real well there in the past always try to cross that bar on the flood. or high slack its just a safe rule of thumb for the Tillamook bar. So plan your trips accordingly. Even when the ocean is nice the Ebb can be a bear to get across always be familiar with how much water is going to move out on the out going tide, this is not a bar for the novise or begginer. It's One of the reasons we fish out of Newport now and I've been on the ocean all my life. We gave up some good fishing holes too, plus better crabbing far as Im concerned. Saftey is much more important and how many more days I can fish is too good or bad LOL! we get more days on the ocean going out of Newport. Its Just a Fact of life and Im from Tillamook. If that tells you anything. GOOD LUCK! AND SAFE FISHING!
