What to do with a turkey beard . . .
I have an idea of something to do with mine from my first turkey ( http://www.ifish.net/board/showthread.php?t=149913 ). I was wondering what you think and, also, what you do with yours.
I'm considering filling the band with hot glue or epoxy, mounting the beard into the band and then putting a small eye screw into the top to hang it from my rearview mirror or ????

that's as good as any other idea. If you kept the tail and dried it as a fan, the beards look good hanging below the fan.

I have a spur necklace and the band I got off a bird 8-10 yrs ago is on that.
If you saved the shotgun shell, you can use it for a display like this. I've been making these my kids and myself lately.

Yea, I agree. I didn't keep the tail, though, as it was a bit beat-up. Don

Don...start yourself a spur necklace, the band could be the centerpiece. Here's mine, I've added a few more spurs to it since the pic was taken.

That is neat Ron, I have never kept any spurs over the years. Seeing that makes me wish I would have.

When I read your previous post, I hoped you would post a picture of the necklace. That's really nice. I didn't keep the spurs either - - 'didn't know 'til after I read some of the subsequent threads. Can you give a close-up of the mount or attachment for the individual spurs? Thanks! Don

Re: What to do with a turkey beard . . .
I have decided to start bringing the whole bird back. I will give Ron the feathers for arrow fletching. I will use my wing bones and if the birds have spurs, the leg bone can be used to make a wing bone yelper, by substituting the Ulna bone with the leg bone, that way you end up with a yelper that has a spur on it. That is another use for the spur, that I didn't know about until I had already cut mine off.
I mounted my tails and beards this year with kits that I purchased at Sportsmen's Warehouse, but didn't know about the wing bone yelpers until my season was over and half of my bones were tossed in the trash.

Re: What to do with a turkey beard . . .
I was so dumb about turkey hunting I never thought about the spurs. Sure wish I had asked some questions before going this year.
I did keep the beards for the past two years.
Now I have to make a decision on what to do with them.

Can't believe everybody tosses out the spurs from their birds

Ron,
I've come to the conclusion that when it come to:
Beards,, Bones,,,Trad. Bows,, Beads,,,LeatherLace,,, Arrows,,,Antlers,,, Spurs ,,, Feathers,,,Photography Scene Set Up,,, and anything else associated with a successful animal harvest, that we need to consult you either before or after the harvest to make sure that we are not tossing something out or not taking full advantage of our animals potential uses.
Thank you for teaching me so much on the pages of ifish
