Default Holy Jigheads Batman!

I just got back from a marathon trip to St. Cloud Minnesota and back, and while I was there I had enough time to brouse through a Gander Mountain store.

I couldn't believe the assortment of jig heads they have! Every conceivable size, color, color combination, weight, hook size and shape, you name it. I was a mazed at the selection. I've done my share of bobber and bait fishing, but not bobber and jig fishing. If you're into that type of fishing and want a good selection to look at, I'd suggest getting one of their catalogs or finding out if they have a website. All the jig's I saw were 3 for $5. There were many, many, many to choose from.

I also saw some of those pork rinds shaped like frogs they use for Bass fishing - I almost picked up a few to bounce around for springers, you never know. I'm kicking myself now, I love trying things nobody else is using! "Nice springer, what'd you catch it on - oh, just some pork rind shaped like a frog"

Yep, that's the place. I just browsed their site, and couldn't find any pictures of their jig heads. They sell SO much stuff it would be hard to put it all on a website I guess. Here's the like to their locations and 800 phone number. Maybe they have a catalog that would show some of their jigs.

I've looked at the Gander Mountain catalog and they do have a ton of jigs to chose from. But one thing you have to watch out for is the jig hooks. A lot of their jigs are meant for Bass and other warm water fish. Steelhead and Salmon will straighten out those hooks in an instant. In the past I've ordered jig heads from Cabela's and have found out the hard way...the hooks simply can't hold Steelhead. Heavy wire Gamakatsu hooks are the way to go if you're fishing for Steelhead or Salmon.

Stlhdr -

You're right about some of these jigs, it's obvious that the hooks weren't meant for fish like steelhead. But I also saw bunches of them that I wouldn't hesitate to use for steelhead. (I've caught steelhead on 4 and 6lb leader)

All I wanted to do is let people know of another place they could look for something different. If I was a jig fisherman I would have come home with a pocket full of them!

Happy jiggin.

I've ordered jig heads from these companies in the past. Their prices and selection are what got my attention. It's a good way to buy inexpensive jig heads or tie your own jigs. Just be aware of the hooks.
