Default Cedar Plug Hook Rigging?

I'm wondering if anyone has a creative way to prevent chafing from the eye of a cedar plug hook. Most rigged cedar plugs just have the line through the eye and then crimped, but that's about all you have room for in the hole at the end of teh plug.

If the connection doesnt fit in the hole, and you dont want to change the size of the connection, change the size of the hole

I guess I could bore the hole out in the plug, but there's no way I could drill out the eye of the hook big enough for an anti-chafe spring.

you could use wire? Wont stop the chaffing, but it will last longer than mono. I use 200# mono and just change it out when it looks bad.....

if the anti chaf spring doesnt fit, why use it?

Cedar plugs dont run on handlines for squat, handlines are to close to the boat and the plugs wander all over, you will probably tangle a mess with them on a handline. So that leaves running cedar plugs on rods. Just how heavy of line do you think you need for a cedar plug? If the crimp is to big for the line your using, use a smaller line. 40 or 50 lb mono is plenty, you could even get by with less. The smaller the line, the smaller the crimp.

I dont have any store bought plugs and dont know how big the hole is, but my homemade ones have a 1/4 inch hole and I have no problem with a low profile knot to the hook and 120lb line, no crimp.

Maybe you're right and I'm worrying over nothing. I don't use cedar plugs on handlines. I was just looking at the edges of the hole in the hook, wondering how to prevent them from chafing the line. I use 50# for my leaders. I guess I won't worry about it and check them often. Keep in mind that I'm still learning as I go here, and weird questions pop up in my mind all the time about this stuff.

Thanks for the input!!

Roy ... 100# maxima and a Jinkai 'H' size aluminum ferrule works for me. No re-drilling required.

Like you pointed out .. no need to go too big on leader when you are fishing a plug on stand up gear. The 100# seems to resist chafing.
