Why would you want to hear a report from over there Dave? Planning a trip soon?

Something like that.

FYI ODFW's recreation report for 05/09/2007

"BROWNLEE RESERVOIR: Crappie fishing has been good, especially at night. Bass fishing has been very good and the fish are large. Females have spwaned and the males are on the nest. Perch and bluegill are being caught by boat and from shore. Use worms, jigs with crappie nibbles or cutbait. A few catfish are being picked up as well. The reservoir is full."

Hopefully B-RUN STEELIE can comfirm or deny this report tomorrow.

WINDY !!! Main lake was rocking and rolling this afternoon. Launched at Farewell bend and ran up to the Powder river. Started out slow. A few small bass. Huge thunderhead came up and got dark. Fishing picked up but nothing big. Were not catching any crappie and thats what we were targeting. Back out into the main lake and headed down the Idaho side to the steep banks. Crappie hanging on steep rock out croppings suspended 12 ft down. Every crappie we caught today were Black Crappie. Did not catch an single white Crappie. Crappie seemed to get bigger the further we went back up the lake. ( was pretty good right above Mountain man lodge on the Idaho side) but the wind was kicking butt. Ducked outa the wind in a cove and hooked this thing on a Loomis 841 IMX 2-6 lb Ultra light with 4lb P-Line.... these guy wanted me to break it off but the glove was down.. had to see if I could and I did... I am the carp master !!! talk about a fight !! This thing was a screamer and we had to chase it down three different times so I didn't get spooled. Most Bass were 12-14 inches with the usual 50 dinks, but were were fishing Crappie not Bass. Wound up with 28 Crappie 8-12 inches. the wind made it tough.

Way to stick with that fish. That had to be a blast on light gear. Does it look like the smallies have spawned yet or could you tell?

Yes, I would say they have spawned. 90% of the bass we caught were males. The few females we caught did not have big bellies but we didn't keep any so not 100 % sure. I would say the spawn is over from what we saw. The wind was brutal. If we had been in a smaller boat it would have been and issue on the way back to farewell bend. We let some guys in a Bass tracker get right in our wake so they could get back.

That is a nice rod for Crappies. Did you get it from retail store or you special order for it. I tried to order it, but they keep delay my order for over month now. I got 842 GL3 4-10 lb, but want to test 841 on my next trip to Brownlee. Thanks ahead for reply.

Just came back from snake river. fishing off 18 mile. Windy & stormmy, but fish bites very soft. you needs a very sensitive rod to feel them. but I did got some very nice crappies around 14-16".

Fished there all weekend at Woodhead area. Tons and tons of bass. plenty in the 12-14" range. We used a split tailed crappie jigs up against the banks. Landed several dozen black crappie also in the 8-10" range. Yelling we have doubles again gets tiring. Absolute blast.
All fish were released with a sore mouth.
