Forget the high lakes.

Try Roslyn Lake, just outside of Sandy. They just stocked it with tons of nice hatchery rainbow, plus all the hatchery steelhead that go up the Sandy get trucked down from Marmot and dumped in the lake. Ever faught a steelhead on an ultalight with four pound test?

Hey, if the trout arent biting in the lake you could always hit the river while your close by. Salmon and steelhead are in, and fishings only going to get better and better through June!

I spoke with a friend of mine at the Forest Service last week, the road to Timothy is open all the way to highway 26, and the 224/46 road is open from Estacada to Detroit. The PGE ramp at Timothy is snow free however the FS ramps are still snow plugged. The good news is that there is only about 24" of snow at Olallie and should be open by the end of the month...2 months early, the bad new is the fire danger later in the summer, one last thing if you fish Timothy spinning try Rebel Tiny Craw with a couple of splitshot 4' up line and 4# test the lake is loaded with crayfish and that is what the hold overs are targeting..Flyfishing I would start with a #8 Black Wooly Bugger or Yellow Tied Down Caddis....I use a micro-lite Browning rod...even stockers make a good fight,

Merwin/Yale...I spent the weekend on both lakes. Struck out at Yale but caught several very good sized kokanie, and a couple rainbows over 12" at Merwin. Also hooked up to a tiger muskie but with 6 lb line, no freeking way. We were trolling "wedding rings" behind flashers at about 30' with a piece of white corn on the hook. Early morning bite is the ticket; slows way down around 10.

I was up a Timothy Lake and Harriot Lake this weekend. Harriot Lake was a freakin zoo. People fishing butt cheek to butt cheek, tents all over the place, people in tiny little boats zooming all over the place. Not a good place to spend a relaxing and sunny Sunday morning.

I decided to spend the day at Timothy Lake, but I was stuck with fishing from the shore. Didn't get even a small bump, but much less pressure.

Detroit Lake is great right now! Fished this weekend with only a dozen or so other boats on the whole lake! Caught 30+ holdovers in the 12 to 16" fatty range in short order. The water is only 47 degrees so the fish are fiesty.Boats can be launched from Mongold, a paved ramp, although it requires a pair of boots. It was a nice experience for the family after spending so many hours chasing salmon on the Columbia and Willamette without much luck. All of the stocking is done at this ramp so bank fishing is easy too. Buy some supplies while you're up there. The people are going to be hurting due to the lack of business from media warnings. There is plenty of water to fish, plenty of fish, and no ski boats.
