Default What's hot??

Hi everybody! I'm new to the ifish community and already have found some great advice and new tips to try out. I'm located in Corvallis right now and was planning on going fishing for either salmon or steelhead this Saturday but would prefer salmon. Does anybody know what would be the best place to go right now for either? I don't have a boat or know anybody that can give me a ride out on the ocean otherwise I would try Newport
Thanks for the advice

Tillamook is producing a few salmon right now but mostly a boat fishery at this point until they get into the rivers. Some steel in some of the coastal rivers too you just have to give it a go. Might get a little more information on the main board on the steelies.

Yea, sounds lke you are talking about "poison water" (fresh) fishing.

I'm in Corvallis too....I'm not a river-fishing highliner like many on the other board, but a couple suggestions for a reasonable shot at hooking something would be:

- South fork Santiam for summer steelhead, below the dam & hatchery. Avoid it on weekends. Bobber/jig, or spinners work well up there.

- Upper Siletz for summer steelhead....canyon above Moonshine Park.....road into the canyon is open on weekend. When closed during the week, you can still walk in a ways.

I used to be a student at OSU. Just graduated with my second degree and waiting for my job to start in July. Studying for my CPA exam and doing a little part time work until then.

So tell us a story....a little about yourself. Where does your name "chow" come from? You eat a lot? Chow dog?

My best fishing story would probably have to be trout fishing in Montana. I went wishing with some friends for a night fishing trip. It was a very cold night and I was sitting in the car a lot since the car was only about 7 feet from the shore. Just as a I was dozing off, probably around 3 AM, I heard this big bang noise. I noticed my pole had flown off the pole holder about 5 feet. My friend tried to grab the pole and set the hook but by then it was gone. Since it was a lake known for it's trout, I suspect it was a big trout.

My name chow is actually referring to my bad luck with steelhead. I haven't gotten one yet in the 2 seasons I've tried LOL!!.
