Default Advice on external motor bracket

I'm considering buying an 18-20 aluminum boat with prop driven motor mounted on external bracket or on the transom in conventional configuration. What are the pluses and minuses of the external bracket for the main motor and kicker. Does the external bracket mount put the kicker out of reach for tiller operation? The external mount seals off the stern from waves washing back which is what happens with conventional cut transom. Are there minuses other than the additional costs?

i personaly would rather have a conventional mounted motor and get a foot longer boat, keep everything at arms reach.
