Default CHEAP SHOT

Today, I watched ODFW recycle steelhead at Riverside Park on the Clackamas. They recycled about a hundred steelhead, most of them were summer steelhead. There was Oakie drifter's driftboat and another driftboat. Plus a small sled too. Oakie drifter loaded her boat on her trailer.

Then the Odfw truck backed down to the ramp and unloaded the fish. We ran down to the ramp to watch them unload. Wow, what a sight. Splashing fish and jumping too. They were disorientated from being drugged by CO2 for the trip.

Well the sled, now has moved into position to fish into those disoriented fish. Thank god for the other driftboat, He fired up his motor and went over those fish scattering them over the river. Run fishy for your lives...

Maybe Im wrong here, but what happened to fair play. Is this a sport or what? I realized they recycle the steelhead for more catching opportunity. But geeze, give them at least a half hour for sporting chance and sense of fair play.

They do this same practice on the South Santiam as well and one day when we were taking out at the end of the drift we watched them drump just like this. I got to talkin with the ODFW guy and he told me that they won't bite for probably at least two hours or more until they get there barrings straightt and come down from the CO2. Still, it was kind of a cheap shot on the part of the sled I think as well.

Fishrus, many of us know exactly what you mean. The South Santiam at Waterloo Park has become a joke due to the hordes that fish for the steelies that get recycled there. I used to really enjoy fishing the park for springers and usually had long stretches of it to myself, but in the last few years I've basically given up on it. Some of these guys (I won't call them fishermen) FOLLOW the fish truck down from the hatchery. Shooting fish in a barrel at its finest!

FISHRUS,
I feel the same way you do. It just isnt fishing. And its not very sporting in my book.

KWIKY,
I like to go to Waterloo Park after the dump fish. I leave the rod at hme and go there for the entertainment factor. You see some real winners that follw the truck. One evening a couple years ago some buddies and I were at Wiley creek BSing and half heartedly fishing in the combat zone. All of a sudden people started coming out of the woodwork. The fish truck was pulling down to recycle some fish. Oh my god, you should have seen the circus that followed. The crowed of 10 swelled to at least 40 people when the word got out that they dumped fish. Needless to say my buddies and stoppped fishing, Sat down and cracked open some cool ones, And enjoyed the show. Soetimes people watching is more fun than actually fishing.
