Mike, check the counts over the falls. Go
fishing! The hatchery has been recycling
summers to John Neal park. They are supposedly "flushing" the smolts by letting
more water go. I personally would rather see
it at or below 4. cfs (mehama), it's now at
4.6. good luck

Like NEUTRON said, Go by the Mehama guage. I like to fish the lower stretches when its running below 4 foot. I actually got to fish it when it was running at 3 feet and the flow was about 2000 cfs.Talk about awesome.
Right now both forks of the Santiam are running high. As soon as the water drops, Look out. The fishing is going to be red hot.

Default N.Santiam question

I was wondering what flows are prefered for bank fishing the North Santiam? Also, please let me know which gauging station you're looking at. There's one at Niagara and one at Mehama. I was thinking about making a trip out there but I need to know if it's too high. Thanks.
