Since the river will be dropping every night and will be at a good level Tuesday morning, there is a chance for good fish biting on Tuesday. By Wednesday, the flow will have increased over the Tuesday level, and the fish will settle down again. It does look good for next week!

Thanks for the reports Bill! As I'm sitting here replying to your post I notice that It's raining Horses and Cows outside right now. I live about 3/4 mile north of the north Santiam and about 1/2 mile east of the main stem. As you said Variable weather, and the river was looking pretty good today. Thanks again!

Default North Santiam river levels

River level will change for the next week because of work projects and variable weather. The prediction is for 5500 cfs Saturday, 4500 cfs Sunday, 3500 cfs Monday, 1700 cfs Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until noon, and 2700 from Tuesday noon until later in the week. Those cfs levels are coming out of Detroit and Big Cliff, and levels at Mehama, Stayton, and Jefferson will be much higher.

Steelhead often come upriver in the higher levels, and bite well as the river drops. There will be some occasions when the winter steelhead should bite pretty well in the next week.
