Default Saturday hali report

Well I wasn't planning on it but with the great forecast and the Halibut open at the CR I could not pass it up. Made a few calls and filled the boat with an awesome crew. Smily met me at the house and we got in the truck with boat in tow bound for Hammond. We met Freakwater and waterfowlin101 there. Running mate fish on had his boat Pole Dancer in the water and was itchin' to get out but he said the bar was restricted to 30'. Knowing it was about low tide we went ahead and launched just in time for them to drop the restriction to 20'. Got a report from Keywest who was headed in with a limit as we were headed out and ran for the hole. Lots of sharks and other junk causing many unwanted 500+ foot bait checks but we did manage a 38" and 50" with a chicken getting released. All three fish on Freakwater's hot rod for the day. Fishing was pretty tough but we all had a wonderful time getting out on the salt.

Thanks to Freakwater for sharing his fish with everyone and waterfowlin101 for being the only guy to remember a camera.

Here's a pic of John's 60+ pound fish:

NICE FISH, I bet his twin is what pulled my rod/reel out of the holder and into the deep. We ended up with 2 about 25#s. Had all kinds of trouble with the dog fish, I think we lost 5 rigs and lots of bait. Thanks for letting us run out with you guys it was great to see how easy your Sea Hawk OS handled the day.

I do not know Jonh or how tall he is but the BUTT looks to be about 52 or 53 inches which by my chart would put the weight at over 75 lbs

Way to go

I want to echo that "Thanks Thuan". It was a beautiful day on the water. Never worked so hard to not catch a fish with all the dogfish around. Even the Dogfish didn't leave the canary rock fish we brought up. It came up with only half it's body. I am always grateful for an invite on Something Good. It is a killing machine.

Freakwater, you said all you ever catch were chickens, Where did you find that one? Oh thats right your just another fisherman. Good job none the less. Great fishing with ya and all the rest of the guys.

P.S. Circle hooks don't catch fish!!

Nice fish.....
Don't forget about the Berkley power grub! We use 8" white. Many times without bait. These things work with or without bait. Doggies don't like 'em, Halis and sometimes lings do. Hang one of those on a Gamakatsu 13/0 Big River hook and you're in business.

All of these photos of fish out of the CR are very heavily photo shopped. That pic is of one about 10#. It's easy to simply stretch the size of the fish to anything you want. Actually, I believe this is a photo taken last year out of Garibaldi and simply posted this weekend to give the illusion that there might be a halibut to catch out of the CR.

Some folks have no shame.
