Fishing slang
How bout slang fishing terms:
No matter what you are using for bait/lures, the term for it is a worm.
"Hand me another worm" referring to a herring/eggs/shrimp? I've heard this one alot.
"Get on the sticks" (the oars)
"Pick em up, we're moving" (Pull in your gear, pull the anchor...)
A fishing pole is a rod, stick, but NEVER a pole...
"Doughballs" People who fish the old fashioned way, with old eagle claw poles, and still catch more fish than we do!!!
"Bank Maggots, beach lice" Bank fishermen...(Who incidently also catch more fish than me, and I still love to bank fish too!)
"Run backs, darkies, blackies, downstreamers...what else?" Spawners..
"Chromers, shiners," Bright shiny fish that have just come in.
Do you have more?
We went through a list of them, one day in the boat and we came up with so many! Now I can't think of but a couple! Coffee! Need more coffee!
Let's have some fun with this one!
Jen

A leaveitright. Anything you hook but don't want. Usually sticks or clumps of moss. Sounds like the willamette is full of leaveitright's this year...

Re: Fishing slang
"Bring out the Sure Strike"
"Sure Strike" was an herbal medicine that's now legal for some uses in Oregon. Back in the old days, we always kept a supply in the boat for those times when we felt pain.
