That is a dandy fish.

Like they say on the CR fishing for fall nooks... "Any color will work as long as it's blue."

Nice! I need to get up there soon.

What depth were you finding the fish at? Are they at the 35 to 45' depth yet?

Here is a tip on the kokes up there. By some bubble gum pink zipper worms, the small segmented ones and use about 3/8 of an inch of one and thread it up the hook on a wedding ring. I started doing that a couple years ago. They bite the pink wormed hooks more than the bare ones. You still need white corn .

You'll have to post how it tasted. I heard the chinook out of GP tasted like mud, and some couldn't even smoke it out.

That was funny. On another report a guy said the meat was white.
I guess some one wants to give bad info. Fish taste great at GP.

I caught a chinook also at Green Peter the week before last and the meat was very white, so maybe there are ones that are pink, others not...we BBQ'd it and it tasted allright...but it didn't taste like a salmon to me.

Chinook flesh can be anywhere from light beige (white-ish) to deep red/orange. Not sure if its diet or genetics, or both. I have caught lots of mature chinook from the saltwater that had very light flesh. In Southeast Alaska they just call them white kings.

Kokanee, even from the same school, can vary greatly in flesh color too. Recent batches of kokes from Odell, Suttle and Wickiup all showed quite a bit of variation.

The people I talked to said that it may be the algae. I haven't tasted one myself so I don't know, but if they taste like a springer I'm in.

Bottom line, FishTY, you and your wife came home with a VERY NICE fish. Congrats. Had to be a fun fight and great feeling once you had it in the net.

You can probably say you have the Chinook of year, so far, from GP.

Absolutely beautiful coloration.

Stupenny,

We fish GP several times a year. While targeting other species there, we very often still enjoy good catches of incidental bows, and I assure you there is a VERY wide diversity in both color and quality of the flesh. It's our contention the hold-overs may not get the nutrients needed which in turn reflects as lighter colored and reduced firmness in muscle.

Also mentioned was the white fleshed Chinook of Alaska, and a commercial I know confirmed them saying they may well have been (in his 40 year commercial opinion) squid feeders, and that those with this habit tend to display the white flesh which (fact)) significantly lowered value to marketing. Iodine(possibly from Shrimp in the food chain) could be a factor as it's presence in higher concentrations results in displays of darker red in the fish. That's My
.... I do dearly enjoy those Kokes!
