Default Crabbin around the astoria area

Thinking of dropping some crab pots on the way out to the Hali grounds. Anybody know where to drop the pots and find some crabs to take home for Saturday?

Crabbing has been s l o o o w, but near the lighthouse is as good of a place as any, not a lot of current, your pots will likely be there when you get back.

Even in the "slow" current if your using light pots I'd be inclined to add some weight to them. It may make your pull a bit tougher but will help ensure they'll be there when you come back to get them.

I have had excellent results on the Oregon side of the Columbia, just up river from the Hammond marina entrance (east of the rock jetty). Drop your pots in 20-30' of water. I have easily limited there with the pots only being in the water for a couple of hours.

Radius,
Is this a current report? I have gone there in the fall and done great but I haven't crabbed there this time of year.

Hey Smiley:

You're right. After I posted that, I thought I should have clarified. That's a report from the end of October. It could have changed significantly. Thanks for calling me on that :frown:

Had pots in by Ilwaco in front of the lighthouse Sat and Sun, only managed 1 keeper male out of a zillion females. Did better on sea bass and clams.
