Re: Looking for a guide
Bill knows him, but he is not home. You can e mail me if you like, or wait for more responses. He is well known.

Re: Looking for a guide
Trust David. Hire John Garrett. Same caliber of guide, much nicer. Fishes same areas as Herb Good.

Re: Looking for a guide
I went on a guided trip with Herb a few years ago. He was great, his dog was a blast, we caught fish, and we ate great. So what's changed? I think all you guys that are down on him ought to have the courage to fill us in.

Re: Looking for a guide
We really weren't guide bashing at all. Herb is an excellent fisherman. He's been fishing that upper gorge area including the tributaries for over 20 years, if not longer. He knows it like the back of his hand. It's just the fact that he's a little bit older, and if things aren't going too well, like people losing fish, he can get a little testy. John Garrett, who has been fishing with Herb for many years, is a very good guide (so is Herb) and is more easy going, and to me, that means alot. I'm not paying $150 to have someone yell at me because the hooks pulled out right at the boat(maybe more than once). We all know that's just fishing. But my how quick that gets overlooked when the fishing is a little slow. I've been with a lot of guides. I'm the type that if I don't know an area, especially big water like the Columbia/Tillamook Bay/etc., to me the money is well spent to go with a quality guide and is plesant to be around. Don't get me wrong, honestly, if John wasn't up there, and I wanted to learn that area, such as Wind, Drano, Klickatat River, I would hire Herb.

Re: Looking for a guide
Sometimes it's hard for me to remember when the hooks stayed in!!!
As I get older, it's a lot less painful to lose a fish. Actually, kinda makes me laugh in amazment at their ability to get unbuttoned. I'm usually just grateful for the 'close encounter'.

Re: Looking for a guide
I highly recommend Shane Groshong as an excellent guide as you will see if you ever get to meet him. He can be reached at 541-744-9616. We had a blast fishing both Salmon and Sturgeon with him last year and this year, too.

Re: Looking for a guide
I've fished with Todd and Travis from Fins, Feathers, and Furs, and they are classy young guys. They are young ambitious and learned from the best Herb Good. You can reach them at 541-926-4372. They also run a great camp on the Nush in Alaska.
