Ouch that just sucks. I would tell the credit card company to reverse the charges. Especialy since I didn't think the charges were justified. Some credit cards require you to do it in writing so you need to check with them.

Agree with Marty, Jen. I have been able
to get questionable charges removed on
my cards, when the "fine print" was not
in the consumers best interest.

Jennie:
So what would be wrong with a teensy little promo banner encouraging support of "our" site. We have all learned so much. I especially appreciate fishing reports. You know, for the first time we now have the ability to simultaneously watch the effect of such things as weather on fishing activities over a wide geographic area. There is some exciting science going on here. This is a great (!) site. Make it easy for folks to support it financially.

does a "refresh" count as a hit ?? if so maybe you could make it auto refresh and not be charged a hit.....

Jen: You may want to delete your "go Here" link as when I went there, they are gone. Took your money and now your stats.

Frustration with mycomputer.com Don\'t go there!
Well, I guess this will teach me!
I was cold called by superstats tracking service three months ago. Their 'free' banner service, if you remember correctly, that slowed down our server with those banners at the bottom of the page, were going to be removed, in favor of the pay for use service.
This is an example of why I will NEVER go pay service for ifish:
Anyway, they talked me into paying 200 a year for the service. It took alot of talking on their part, but I finally agreed. 200 a year, I thought, to prove to new adverts that ifish is doing really well. Bill and I said yes.
Well! Because I went OVER their maximum usage, for hits per day, they started, without my knowledge, charging my credit card 270 a month!!! READ THE FINE PRINT!!!
I have been on the phone all morning! They say I agreed to it! ARGH!
Thank God for donations, I'm going to need them. Live and learn. Free doesn't happen.
I feel like fighting this one though. This is awful! WHO in their right mind would agree to pay 300 a month, plus 200 a year to track stats for a basicly non profit site????
They say I did.
I AM SO MAD!!!
Jen

Re: Frustration with mycomputer.com Don\'t go there!
Sounds like a crappy deal to me! I did look at some of the stats, and you have one heck of a popular site!
With close to 1,100 members now, if each member would donate at least $10-$20 (or more) annually, it would sure help to offset this type of garbage that is unfortuantely part of doing business as well as help to compensate you for your time and efforts.
COME ON GUYS AND GALS! I'd be willing to bet that every single member of this board has learned at least ONE thing that has helped them in their fishing and boating adventures. That's got to be worth something! April may be over, but donations can be made anytime!

Re: Frustration with mycomputer.com Don\'t go there!
Thanks, Wheresmy, but I did say April was the end of it. There is always next year. I so appreciate what I have gotten.
I have to think about the friendships I have made here at ifish, and the happiness it has brougt me. I started this site, I can end it if it ever gets too much for me. So far, it's still heads up! There, Hell hath no wrath like a girls stats scorned. I still have a cheapy free stats thingy that runs.
Anyway, ifish will now be faster!!! And who the heck cares how many hits we gets?
The mycomputer thing really was MY fault for not looking closer. I must admit that, even though I can't see how any company could feel good about doing biz that way.
Oh well, I'm going to go buy flowers for someone and make them feel good. (It's MAY DAY!!!) That will make me feel better. It always does!

Jen
Whats a unique visitor? This site is very popular!!!! Guess thats because there's no place as great as Oregon. Plus this is the Best fishing site/BB in the Northwest.
And we've got the ifish queen

Re: Frustration with mycomputer.com Don\'t go there!
It was a great way to have a nice lunch on ifish.net....
Geesh! Do you realize it cost meeeee 300 bucks for two months of stats service, just to tell how many people had been to ifish?
They finally gave me credit for one month and what I hadn't used for the annual fee.
I'm still going to call and complain about it to the powers that be.
Here are my stats though for the day, new free free free stats program!. Kind of handy and it does everything I need for free! Yeeeee haw! Thanks to my handy CGI man!
He be da man!

Re: Frustration with mycomputer.com Don\'t go there!
Hi Jennie,
Sorry to hear about your problems with MyCompter.com. Another good and free tracking service is Hitbox.com. I use their entry level service, (the free one) and get more stats and analysis than I can use.
Your new stats service looks pretty good, though.
Thanks for the info on MyComputer.com, though. I'll make sure to warn our clients to stay away from them, as well.
