Teenagers think their so smart!
Sunday a 4 door honda came power sliding around my street corner with all 4 wheels squeeling. He thought he was so cool in his 4 door "ricer". I was standing at the back of my truck when he almost hit my truck (on the street). I yelled at him...he gives me the finger. I get in the F250 and drive the same direction in my (bedroom community) neighborhood (Beaverton). Within a block I find him turning around on a side street. I partially blocked his path and told him I had his plate and would not call the cops as long as I never see him pulling that stunt again. There was no way he heard me as he was on on his cell phone.
Next day. 4:20pm, a 4 door Red "ricer" does the same drifting stunt coming around the corner. Hmmm....coincidence. Maybe. But the driver was different. I got in the truck but could not find him in the maze of streets in my 'hood.
Today (Tuesday) 4:20 again, same 4 door red ricer is squeeling tires and sliding out of control around the corner. Run to the truck and try to find him. Bingo. I pull in front of his house write down his plate and home address. Then this 16-17 year old kid sticks his head out the front door. I say I want to talk to him, come here. He says no thanks.
I yell, Hey kid, lets make a deal. I got you on video tape with your stupid stunt driving around my street corner. You knock it off and chill out and I won't show the Beaverton Police or your parents. He says calmly. No problem man...no problem. I commented Good decision bro....good decision. Take it easy and we got no problems. Get squirley in the car and we got problems. Understand? He replies....no problem man we're cool.
I say have a nice day and wave.
The funny thing is I didn't have any video tape.
Rather than get in his "grill" I decided to negotiate a settlement that had everyones best interests satisfied. I just didn't want the neighborhood ducks, dogs, cats or children put in jeopardy or this kid to throw his life away if he killed a child on a bicycle. He's 16 and most likley doesn't know that what I did was to protect him...not give him grief.
I should make him sweat it by putting blank video tapes in his parents mail box every now and then!

Re: Teenagers think their so smart!
oh, good! way to go!
there's a kid in my neighborhood (same kind of car, same m.o.) that does the same thing. i told my teenage son that I wasn't too happy the other kid racing around the house when my littles are out playing, so my son came home from school one day and said "i don't think he'll be racing around our house anymore. I told him you'd had been in and out of an asylum, and the sound of his unmuffled car made you start to twitch a little, and that I was afraid you might go chuck norris on him if he didn't stop." Haven't heard his car since. (<---that's me acting crazy)

Re: Teenagers think their so smart!
I think most teenagers go through this fase of driving like an idiot
They probably just got their license and think its alot of fun and cool
Im seventeen and have been driving for almost two years and i am guilty of driving like that when i first got my license
Fast and reckless
It's pretty dangerous
you could end up killing some one or screwing up your car and destroying other peoples property
I eventually grew out of it and decided it wasnt worth the risk
And have been a safe driver ever since
with a perfect driving record
I'm glad that you cought them
they will probably think twice about doing it
or at least not do it in your neighbor hood anymore
maybe when they get a reckless driving ticket they'll figure it out

Dang! What a great way of dealing with this problem!
The world would be a better place if this kind of thing happened more often. Thanks for taking the time to help steer this kid straight.

Re: Teenagers think their so smart!
There's a white 4 door Honda doing that drifting thing on my street corner out in Forest Grove. I keep a disposable camera by the door for kids like that. I have several pics on there now just in case one of them causes a wreck and trys to say the car malfuntioned and caused the car to crash.

Kids don’t understand how speed kills. I don’t think you did this kid any justice. Next time it happens I would call the police.

Re: Teenagers think their so smart!
A ricer would better be described as a person who drives a rediculously modified Japanese import, and exhibits some of the behavior noted in the first post on a regular basis. Loud exhausts, big wheels, stickers, and bookshelf sized wings on the trunklids (sometimes even made out of wood) are also common.

Re: Teenagers think their so smart!
OK before I start I want everyone to know that I meen no disrespect to anyone and that this is intended as an eye opener for everyone.
I am a 40y/o father of a beautiful 14y/o young lady and this is coming from my heart:blush: .
Please Please Please do the right thing now and not after the fact. If you see someone driving wrecklessly then please call the police and turn them in ASAP. You can do this without the person ever knowing who you are and you may very well save a life.
At the very least the police will contact the owner of the vehicle and give them a warning. If the driver is underage then the police will contact their parents and let them know what was reported to them.
If a citation is issued then you may be asked to appear in court and state what you saw but that should not stop you from possibly saving someones life. I did just that 4 years ago when I witnessed a 17y/o male driving his car up and down my road with two teen age girls riding up on top of the luggage rack in bathing suits. Think about what could have happened if they had fallen off the top of that car at 35MPH!!!!!
As an adult it is your resposibility to watch out for the young kids and teens within your life and in your community and report theses types of careless driving to the police.
Think about it!!!!! If it was your teenage child doing something as stupid as driving carelessly would you want them reported to the police or dead alongside the road????????
Or what about that sweet innocent 7 y/o riding his or her bike on the sidewalk that dies because some driver was being stupid and drifting or speeding around a corner and loses control running over that poor innocent child.
I assume that everyone here is an adult so lets all be proactive and do the right thing instead of worrying about the what ifs of getting involved.
CALL THE POLICE ON THESE IDIOTS SO MAYBE A LIFE CAN BE SAVED.

Re: Teenagers think their so smart!
I almost forgot to mention this one last semi important detail.
You all have most likely seen the news about the two accidents in Lincoln City, Or over the last week??
For me this is personnal as I have the fun job of trying to save the lives of people that are being stupid and driving wrecklessly.
I and my wife are both Volunteer Fire Fighters here in Lincoln County and I work as an EMT for the Local Ambulance service.
It really bites having to pick these kids up off the roadways but someone has to do it and I truely love my chosen career as an EMT.
I love my daughter and I for one would want someone to call the police if they witnessed her driving wrecklessly as I would rather deal with picking her up from the police office rather than identifying her body at the morg or driving to Portland all the while praying that she lives.
I love life and it is a shame to see a young life needlessly ended when a little bit of proactivness may have prevented a needless death.
Thank you all for reading these two posts and I hope that I did not upset anyone. My intention was to simply open your eyes to the reality of staying silent in hopes of preventing another senseless death or injury.
Respectfuly
Michael

Michael - thanks you for doing what you do. If know body as said this to you yet - welcome to iFish
I've been doing my part including a run in with the Police Chief's son. I had many friends in High School who lived through that period and a few who didn't. If you have kids this age, sit them down and talk to them. It is just another one of those difficult topics that we as parents have the responsibility to discus with our kids.

Don't forget the mat-black painted hood, Performance stickers (each sticker adds 10HP to the car), coffee can exhaust and rubber band thin tires. Oh, 4 door "race car"....gimme a break.
I'm so sick of this "fast and the furrious" holywood BS.
...geez I'm almost 40 and listen to me.
My intent was to give him a chance to get his act together. Besides, he knows where I live and the last thing I want is retaliation, burglary or my boat vandalized.

Re: Teenagers think their so smart!
In 1972 at 8 years old, I was hit by a street racing punk. I was in my dad's Volkswagon in the passenger side. The impact caused my head to break out the windshield and I went half way out. I was in the hopital with internal bleeding injuries, almost died on the operating room table. I don't have a spleen now, and have several scars from the operation and from the wreck, and now have immunity issues because of the lack of the spleen.
I get all riled up when I hear of such idiot behavior, because I was almost killed.
Another time, a dude went flying into a church parking lot, where I was walking my 2 or 3 year old daughter from the car to the church, and he just missed her with his car. I lost it, cried like a baby, because in my mind, I thought he hit her for a split second, it was that close.
I saw a teen do donuts on a gravel parking lot last Saturday. Luckily, a Sheriff saw what he did and pulled the dude over!!! Can you say, BUSTED!

I'm trying to get a few more MPH out of my NorthRiver. I thought maybe adding a chrome spoiler on the back might do the trick. I also want to add a subwoofer and speakers to my radar arch so all the other fishermen can enjoy my music.

Don't forget the coffee can exhaust tip. And exhausting above water would tell everyone how cool you are.
Maybe you can put about 600 gallons of water in it to give it that lowered look.

Re: Teenagers think their so smart!
You'll get arrested for harrassment. Think twice before chasing them down. I've been threatened by the cops for this more than once. Don't do it. You'll regret it. Even though, I think you did right.

Re: Teenagers think their so smart!
Sorry but can't agree with your ricer comment or the way you handled this. I would now think twice about leaving my vehicle out at the street.
And just for the record, I'm approaching 60 years old. There is so much stuff that goes on that I've found it's better to get the police involved or let it go.

Re: Teenagers think their so smart!
Fella's. There is a difference between chasing someone down and trying to find where they live. Especially, since I knew it was a young teenager. Maybe I did not explain that very well. Anyways, I think I made a new friend. The young man pulled around the corner today and I waved hello. He nodded back!
We're "Bro's"!!!
I do agree situations like this can turn bad in a heartbeat. The only reason I talked to him (from afar) was because he stuck his head out the front door of his home. My original plan was to call the police and let them handle it. I still have that option.

I cannot believe you made such a gross generalization. Your truculence towards an entire generation, is in my mind obsurd. As I am in that generation, and I can assure you, that I do not believe that a 4 banger is a muscle car. So I ask you, where did you come up with your theory that, this generation, does not know what a muscle car is? I invite you to go get a cup of coffee with me, or a bite to eat, so I can prove to you, that not everyone in this generation is an idiot.
Also, I work at PIR doing tech on drag cars. I know what a muscle car is.
Is this a muscle car, I wonder????

they are def under estimated especially by alot of older people. but man it takes ALOT of money to make a 4 banger nice, and man good luck working on one yourself. cant beat american cars if you ask me. they make them so you can fit your hand in there, and you dont have to pull the engine to do minor work.
