Re: The Portland Failblazers
Highest priced failed experiment in NBA history.....you probally won't recognize the team next year. Maybe they'll trade Bob Whitsitt to start with.

Re: The Portland Failblazers
I forced myself to watch the game.
I didn't want to...
Now I'm really mad at myself for doing it...
What a waste of time...
We need new team member - PERIOD!
I think I will watch a fishing video I have.
Oh well,,,

Re: The Portland Failblazers
Hey everyone listen! You win with a team you gotta learn to lose with them. It's real easy to jump on the bandwagon when a team is riding high but the mark of a TRUE fan is one who'll stick with a team through the tough times. These are the tough times and I imagine sweeping changes in store for the Blazers. I have rooted for the LA Dodgers for 43 years now just after they moved from Brooklyn to Los Angeles and believe me there have been some tough times but I never quit pulling for them through all that. So even if the Trailblazers had a disappointing season if you are a TRUEfan your cry should be Wait till next year!!!!!!!

Re: The Portland Failblazers
Sorry Stew 'ol buddy, I gotta disagree with you on this one...I've been a fan all my life through good times and bad. But, after last season's choke in game 7 against LA and game 2 of this seasons playoff series, I have lost it!
Just think of all the good things that could be done with the 89 million...
Better things I'm sure!

Re: The Portland Failblazers
It is not whether you win or lose... it is how you play the game. The Blazers do neither well.
I am glad I am a Phoenix fan, at least we won a post season game this year. Looks grim after todays loss though.

Re: The Portland Failblazers
The guilt trip. Bigstew comeon, this aint highschool basketball were watching here. These are paid professionals that we support by buying tickets, watching games, supporting sponsors, buying blazer products and yes I have my share of shirts, plaques, cards, banners and the such. I feel since I choose to pay a small portion of their salaries I can be super critical of their play, kinda like when your paying to have your car worked on and the mechanic fails to repair your vehicle. You'll go out and hire a new mechanic if you don't like the work.
I was disgusted with their attitudes (more technicals, ejections, fines then I care to think about. Even the pistons in the late 80's and early 90's had more class and a fraction of the payroll). I couldn't bring myself to watch the game today after the meltdown they had in game two, what a load.
I've never felt like this about the blazer team before, even during all those first round exits they had in the 80's I still felt proud of them. With the exception of a couple players this year the team made me ill.
I'm paying for a product and if the product isn't redone next year, I aint payin' and I think Mr. Allen knows this about most consumers. We want quality and it's about more then a championship, we want a team that appears to care more about winning then they care about their egos.
I guess I'll save being a "true fan" for all those kids and young adults that play for the fun of it.
Wait till next year, we will get a new product, hopefully it tastes better than the thing they produced this season.
One team, one dream

Tshick, you gonna quit rooting for the Blazers? Yeah this year's team was a disgrace all right but are you saying you'll never root for the Blazers again?
Marty old buddy, if you stuck with them through the years of missed free-throw,drugs and Salt Lake City mall rats then you'll root for them again.

Re: The Portland Failblazers
First it was the NFLs Washington Redskins and their high priced all star team. So I guess the Blazers with Paul Allens fat wallet had to see if they could pull off the same thing. BAD EXPERIMENT..They should take a lession from the Seattle Mariners, dump the high priced players (aka Axle Rod) AND GET GUYS WHO REALLY WANT TO PLAY FOR THE PAY!!!.....Two pennies worth. Re: The Portland Failblazers
...Where's the Leadership???????
Oh my......the Blazers are on a downward spiral... BIG TIME
No tippin Pippen goes for a big 7 points
just proves to me was riding on MJ's coat tails all that time
and "Sheed" goes for a big 9....thats it????? 9 points
the most talented power forward in the league ,He obviously didn't show up this one...well at least he didn't embarrass himself and his team mates...by getting ejected....again
too bad some one has to take the blame...looks like Dunleavy gets the axe.....too bad you can't fire the players
BTW my litle blazer fans if you knew anything you're only saving grace is you still have "Trader Bob"....His job is to give the coach a talented team to work with
after that it's up to the coach and the players...sounds like time for him to rebuid....no one is safe
......GO MARINERS !!!!!

Re: The Portland Failblazers
Every time we start to get a decent team built up, Whitsitt trades a good player for a worn out hack or a druggie. It is no wonder that the good players don't care anymore. What can Paul Allen see in Mr. Witsitt? Any other business would have fired him and not a decent coach that has no upper echelon backing. Bah. Re: The Portland Failblazers
I've got to laugh at you Blazer believers out there. What you fail to remember is that Paul Allen was one of two people who created Microsoft, those folks who make the Windows operating system.

Both crash hard when it matters the most

Both have loads of great individual features that don't work well as a whole

Both have cheaper competition out there that is a lot more stable

Once they finally start to work right management swoops in and introduces a new "feature" that screws it all up again
In my mind the Blazers died when Allen bought it and brought Whitsitt in. The last Blazer team had Glide, Terry, Jerome, Duck, and Buck. They were a classy bunch who separate didn't add up to near as much as they did as a whole. If we only would have had Sabonis...but that will always be the grand "what if" for us past Blazer believers.
The class act back then went far beyond the team, too. Harry Glickman, Bill Schonley, Geoff Petrie...the whole organization was great. The team was part of the city, and they were part of our family.
Now more than ever we are made plainly aware that this is a business and not a family. Players are valued more for their stats (Rider, Wallace) than their character (Brian Grant), and the contracts are so large that ticket prices go outside of what the REAL fans can afford. Last year I won tickets to a Kings/Blazers game and I was GLARED at when I got into the game and was cheering and clapping.
Sorry, I cannot believe in the Blazers anymore. I hardly even know them anymore.

Re: The Portland Failblazers
Fobb summed it up for me. I miss the Glide and has anyone been paying attention to Mr. Porter and the Spurs? That old boy still has the touch.
Stew, I'm cooling off now and I may root for the Blazers again after they get their crap together. That's what being a "fair-weathered fan" is all about. I'm hope Dunleavy doesn't end up taking all the burden for this poor season. I really think Whittsit fouled up messing with additions late in the seasons and forcing Dunleavy to alter his rotation to work another "star" in. Why did he have to mess with an already fragile structure?
Maybe next year.

Re: The Portland Failblazers
It was too bad that Brian Grant left but it was either him or Rasheed. When they brought Kemp aboard they had to play him even though he was out of shape and a shell of his former self. These players just did'nt fit together it's as simple as that. I hope Dunleavy is'nt made the scapegoat but you'll remember Adleman was a few years ago. I always root for the Blazers! Same with the Rams,Dodgers and Mariners. I was just sick when Steve Garvey left the Dodgers in 1983 and when Mike Piazza left a few years agao but they are still my team just like they were my dads team.

Re: The Portland Failblazers
poo poo poo to all you nay sayers. yes the results of this year were disappointing, yes sheed needs a spanking from his mommy, yes we didnt get it done, but lets look back....anyone remember when we aquired dale davis for a song and a kid named jermaine???
and when we got scottie i figured he was just part of a deal with another team. i wonder what all you hand sitters were saying when the blazers were 1st in the west in the first part of march?? being a true fan is like fishin, if the fish dont bite one day doesnt mean you huck all your gear in the dumpster and take up stamp collecting. i dont know about the rest of you but im in it for the long run, i cant wait to see what trader bob does in the off season, and i cant wait till next season.
it aint the catchin...its the fishin
(and lately, thats a good thing)

Re: The Portland Failblazers
Normally, I wouldn't touch a topic like this, BUT for years I've been saying how much I hate the Blazers. Two reasons: ONE, The Portland head office will NEVER do what it takes to bring in a winning team, there will ALWAYS be a screw up in the equation. TWO, There is in my book no such thing as a true blazer fan. So much growth has brought in "fair-weathered fans". I remember the teams in the late 80's and early 90's, I remember seeing people flock to TV sets to watch a team that they could of cared less about two or three years later. Portland fans are almost the worst fans for there wishy-washyness. The only other fans who are worse are LA Dodger fans (sorry Dad but it true), what kind of fan leaves a World Series game, only to hear Kirk Gibson hit a game winning home run and hobble around the bases from his car in the parking lot. Its true, my Dad has it on video, you can see the guy slam on his breaks as the ball sails out of the stadium. As for Portland fans; you don't deserve the Blazers, and the Blazers don't deserve you

Re: The Portland Failblazers
Yeah I have it video all right! Complete with the tape skipping from me jumping up and down when Gibson hit that homer. Yes it's true the LA fans head for the exits at about the 7th inning and it does'nt matter what type of game is going on either. It could be a no-hitter and they would still leave early.
The Trailblazers fans are a fickle bunch allright. If there is a downward trend the next few years you can bet the fans will stay away. It's the Blazer managments fault though. They gave everyone such hopes "One Team,One Dream" yeah right! but at least they won 24 years ago!
It's amazing how many bandwagon Mariners fans there are out there isn't it?

Re: The Portland Failblazers
It's all about chemistry. 'Sheed NEEDS to control his emotions and/or temper. Bringing back Rod and Detlef messed things up also. I don't think Dale Davis met anyones standards. Kemp didn't work out at all either. I guess what this all boils down to is that the Blazers should not have changed anything from last year, and it all points to Bob. My .02

Re: The Portland Failblazers
Contrary to most opinions Rod is a great ball handler and can run circles around Damon anyday. What it takes is the players getting on the same page with the Desire to win it all. Individual stars don't make a team, as trader bob oughta know by now. Rasheed needs to get smart along with some counseling. I give Dunleavy a "B" for the year and think he should be retained for his final year. The trouble with this franchise starts at the top. Message to Paul Allen - Dump Whitsitt. The old regime was all heart and a team inspired to win unlike todays overpaid babies.

I've been a Dodger fan for over 40 years and even named my beloved Siberian Husky Dodger.
I have'nt gone as far as any tattooes like this friend of mine did with the Baltimore Orioles.
You want to get real mad Os? How about Gary Payton to the Blazers for Stoudamire and ?????????

Re: The Portland Failblazers
Blazers did what they always do, late season melt down. This year they just did it faster. Osprey says trader bob is our godsend, oh were in trouble. He got rid of O'Neil and look at the numbers he's putting up in indiana, and were still riding that old horse Saba's who cant run and cant jump. We traded away Brian Grant and kept the major head case Wallace who is arguably <sp the one of the best power forwards in the league but does'nt have the head to ever meet his potential. Damon does not now nor will he ever fit Portlands offencive system but who wants to take over his salary.
Trader Bob's one good move Rider for Smith
Watch trader Bob (my prediction)
Trades - Bonzi Wells (dumb move)
Dumps - Rod Strickland
Trades - Stacy Augman
Aquires more old over rated players with big salaries and no game.
As for the woman that was kicked out with her 8 year old stepson. That was a class move by the blazers for sure, they said it was disparaging. BS it was the feelings of a lot of fans and a good portion of the Blazer players.

Oh really B.S.
Gary to Portland ROTFLMFAO..............Dream On Space Cowboy
For 1 you don't have anyone marketable,
Sheed's :a head case
Bonsi'd :gonna be coming off major knee surgery
Pippen: is no leader
Smith's: too old
Strickland: has skills but doesn't always show up to play.
Damion is Ok and had a good series against the Lakers but didn't get much help....
So I guess you ain't nothin we want
I think we'll take our chances with our Lottery pick and a few additions.
Don't care for Wally World either, glad he's moving upstairs and hopefully this will turn things around.
No back to the Reds,my little Dodger Blue Boy
In love with Marge.......ya right I dumped her after she let Tony Perez go without a chance.
Be a fan of the Dodgers and the Blazers......Man ....no wonder you have no friends ....hang in there....I hear the A's are still looking for fans...Good Luck....Os

Re: The Portland Failblazers
Well BS and my good friend Os if I said what I really feel about the HATED DODGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!I would be banned from the board. Growing up in the Bay Area one thing that you learn early is that ALL LA TEAMS SUCK!!!!! . As for Kirk who......yes I do want to PUKEevery time I see that gimp legged Detroit transplant dragging his bum leg around the bases in that world seris clip. Never fear the Mariners will come back to the pack in due time, they cannot be the over acheivers that thay are showing now for much longer. The A's will be there fightin' it out with em' on the end. Now as for the Dodgers.........oh never mind, I like posting here!!!
Good luck and tight lines, Jeff

Re: The Portland Failblazers
I heard they dumped Dunleavy. How did I know that he would be the first one out the door??? Who's headed down the sidewalk kicking horse turds next?

Re: The Portland Failblazers
I really liked Dun.. I'm not sure this is the answer. I do like Clyde though! Would he really come back here to do this? I think that would be neato!!! He's so darn cute, and such a gentleman.

Re: The Portland Failblazers
John Lucas would be a better fit than Clyde. Clyde bailed on the U of Houston head coach job so what make everyone think he'll fit with a bunch of head cases like the Blazers?
Lucas is a good guy and has a close relationship with Rasheed and can maybe do something with Kemp. It's just too bad they had to trade Brian Grant but there is no way Grant could play over Wallace.
Hey Jeff did you ever notice the look on Ecks face as Gibson's ball sailed over Cansecos head? Classic! My brother was at that game.
Os we will have a lot to talk about when the M's travel south to the best stadium ever built to play a three game series with the Dodgers. I certainly hope that Payton does not come to Portland, he is clubhouse poison and too old.

Re: The Portland Failblazers
What a joke. Just a week ago Witless took full responsibility and now he gets rid of Dunleavy who he says "lost the team". What is up with that? Did he not attend the meeting after the end of the season about the public's image of the team?
The problem lies in the fact that Allen is clueless about the team and gives too much control to Witless, who of course won't get rid of the real problem person (himself). Now the rumors start that Drexler might become the next Blazer coach. It's perfect really, since he'll be less of a coach and more of a PR move. Bring home Portland's favorite player and the season ticket holders keep buying their tickets so they can hobnob with the rest of their "I'm only here for the socializing and business contacts and less for cheering for the home team, whoever they are".
They make me sick.
