Default a fish for the wife

My wife has finally agreed to go fishing with me. I have been telling her, for a couple years, how awsome it is just spending time in a drift boat. So Wednesday were gonna do it. My question: where is the most likely place to put her on a fish? (no secrets please). I really need her to hook up and fall in live with this sport! I'm thinking the Sandy, but I have not drifted it before. I live closer to the coast and fish the Wilson & Nestucca mostly. What is a good drift on the Sandy?? I've only been doing this for two years so I'm a little better than a novice on the oars. Is there a shuttle on the sandy, or should we drive two cars?? Should we concentrate on springers or summer steelies? Thanks for all your help.

Sean

Hi local_hooker,
The Sandy is a wonderful river to fish. That's the only one I fish though, because it is close to me. I just got a drift Boat so I am learning that river real well. Last week though, is the first time I actually got into fish. It's not a big producer, but I see enough fish pulled out of it. I am still waiting for my turn. My post of the "Sandy river report" will fill you in. You can also so do a search on Sandy river report and it will tell you of the other times I had gone also. I have been doing the Dabney to Lewis and Clark run because I am a beginner and getting used to the oars. IT is a about a 3 mile easy drift and there is a Shuttle service on it. If your serious about it, I can find a number for you. I know 2 people who use her. I have my wife drop me off and pick me up so I haven't used it yet. But I can see the time where she is not going to be available and I too will have to use her. Right now there is Springers as well as Summer steelies. I have also heard of wonderful things of the wilson and Nestucca as well. Good luck to you, which ever river you choose, Smily

If you are familar with the coast rivers, that would be a good choice to take the wife. For starters it's a lot less travel time and there are fresh fish in all coastal rivers. The drift from the Guide Shop to Sollie Smith would be an easy run to tackle. There's also the Nestucca or Trask to take a look at. Good luck on whatever choice you make.

I'll be heading down to the Wilson tomorrow morning so I'll see what's out there and post a report.

Go to the Sandy. Put in Dabney and take out at Lewis & Clark. Shuttle service is Dorothy Naas @ 666-2270 or 679-1894 (cel).

Friday's report: 6 hookups with 3 in the boat; largest 31lbs/all fish were chrome bright. Used jet diver and shrimp.

Take your time going through the holes and then row back up and do them again.

Remember, make sure your wife is dressed for the weather and include all the necessities that would make it a fun trip. Most of all--have a good time.
