Question Drift Boat Oar Help!

I have a 16 x 54 willie wide bottom drift boat i bought it used in feb. it came with 9' sawyer oars. my question is are these oars to short? i have been informed that 10' oars would be much more suitable for this size boat. what are you guys using and what brand is best? wood or comp? any thing helps thanks.

I too have a 16 x 54 Willie. I use 9.5' composite cateracts. I like my 9.5 but I often think that 9' might be balanced better and only slightly less power.
What problems are you finding with your 9'?

I believe you will find that most owners of 16 x 54 will say a 9.5' is best.

I had a 16' x 54" Willie, and used 9' oars for years, w/ no problems. I currently have a 17' x 54" RiverWolf, and use 9' 4" Cataracts and they are perfect for this boat. I think either would be fine, as long as they aren't too heavy for you to handle.

I have rowed a couple of different boats, mine had 9 foot catacraft ors that seemed too short, then I moved my seat and they worked great. The biggest problem with short oars is how high your seat sits. The higher you sit in the saddle the better angle you get, thus the shorter and more responsive your oars become..

Same boat as yours and I run 9.5' Cataracts. Ive used ( footers and 10 footers. The 10's were too long and very unwieldy. The 9's were too short for me. I row hand over hand most of the time and the 9.5's let me do that.

I have 8.5 foot cataracts, dont know if they wre made that way or bought. But they seem to work. I abuse them way more than I should be they seem to be taking it.

I have had no problems i thought the boat rowed fine, it was a buddy who rowed it and thought the oars were heavy and that they didn't give propper power. he rows all the time where i am just a beginner.
