Exclamation mononucleosis

I need help.

My pretty lady was diagnosed with Mono this afternoon. What can you tell me about this? All the doc said was if it isn't better in a couple weks come back, also that it will get worse before it gets better.

Does anyone have any tips for getting through this or for helping someone get through this?

It's my turn to help her through a tough time so. Any help is appreciated for sure.

Google, google google. Read a bunch and then take the stuff that you two can work with. It can be a short thing or a long thing. There are many variables. Find the common threads in what you read and you might find some help. Good luck. it really can just be a minor inconvenience.

Like STG said, Google it and maybe try Webmd.com

I've never had it, but my wife had it when she was younger and before I knew her. Good luck!

Rest! She needs lots of REST to recover quickly. Be her everything. Make sure she stays in bed and wait on her hand and foot. If you have to go to work, make sure she has pre-made meals, snacks and plenty of beverages before you leave. Plan ahead. Do the dishes, laundry, run the kids - whatever it takes.

It's hard to keep a good woman down. We feel like we have to do everything or it won't get done. Don't wait until she asks. Anticipate what she needs/what needs to be done around the house and just do it. It will go a long way to getting her back on her feet sooner than later.

Isn't mono really contagious............................

It's called the kissing desease isn't it.................

I've also heard that it can be pretty hard to get over, kind of a sleeper. Once you feel like it is gone you can relasps pretty quickly.

Take good care of her and like was said above let her get plenty of rest that will help the most.

I had it when I was 18 and I know the older you are when you catch it the worse it is. I was really sick for what seemed like a month and it seemed like it took me nearly 3-4 months to really feel normal. You want to sleep alot and I remember at first it kinda' felt like the flu. I was really weak and would exhaust quickly if I tried to do anything that was straining. At one point my spleen was so swollen that the doctor feared it would burst, so he told me to stay around people and not go off alone.

This nasty bug kept me out of the military. I was on delayed entry and caught it about a month before my ship date. I tested positive for over a year and received discharge papers for one year inactive duty. The final word from the pathologist is that i would test positive for another 5 years (must have been the antibodies?). So, that ended that chapter off my life.

Anyways, it made me really sick and I've never had anything like it prior or after since.

Rest really is about the only thing that mattered to me, but the only thing that really matters is time for the bug to run it's course. Don't let her overdo anything either, you will have to take care of the choirs.

How old is she?

Anyways, good luck.

I had it when I was 32 and it took me around 6 weeks to get on my feet again. Lots and lots of sleep and quiet time. I ended up with strep throat at the end and a high fever so the doctor finally put me on meds and low and behold a week later I woke up and felt fine and was on the Snake river two days later on a float trip. Bottom line, lots of rest. Younger people fair better than older people.

I had it in the 4th grade. I was down and out for 6 weeks. Still took a while after that to regain full strength back. Lots of rest seems to be the ticket.

Had it in college and was out of commission for 4months. Besides making you extremely tired... it also can bring in other sicknesses if not careful. I ended up with Mono, Strep throat, Hepititus and something else all at the same time. Temp of 105deg was not fun - doc said I was in the top 5 worst cases he'd seen.

Rest, rest and more rest is the only way to get over it...

Sounds like rest is the common thing. I think I finally have her down in the rest mode. Only a couple days so far and she is going nuts. This is gonna be a long stretch for everyone. Sounds like this could last a couple weeks or more, but hopefully not.

If you have anymore tips or help please let us know. Google has all the same stuff in all the places we have looked. We're just looking for some first hand knowledge and sounds like we have some now.

Thanks everyone it sure is appreciated.

It's a virus. Once you've had you can't get it again. It can take months to get over it. Most common among younger people. You do not have to kiss anyone to get it although it is called the kissing disease. Close contact (like in class rooms) can spread it easily enough.

I had it about 6 years ago and I'm no teenager. Heck not even in my 30's. The one thing that I did was drink pure Noni juice. It's supposed to boost the immune system. It's a vile tasting drink but I know that I never got sick or weak like everyone else I talked to. Sweat like crazy at night for a while but that was about it. Never drank the Noni juice after that though. That's how bad it is. It's the 100% stuff not the mixed stuff to make it taste better.

I originally caught it in 1979 while I was in the Navy. The good news was that it was diagnosed shortly after deployment on West Pac, and I was dumped in Hawiai for 3 month's to recover. 2 years later while assigned to a Minesweeper in Tacoma I had a relapse, and once again the Navy put me on limited duty for another 3 months to recover. Both times I was very lucky to be in a position to lay back and do nothing while recovering, if I'd had to work and take care of myself during that time it would have been rough! Pamper her, wait on her hand and foot! Then for the next couple of years try not to let her get to run down, or it could raise it's ugly head again.

Mono is no lauphing matter, but i just have to say, my brother caught it in high school, I was probably eight or so at the time, i asked my dad how he got sick, he told me he got it from licking toilet seats! thats crude old logger humor for you.

Seriously though, I hope your wife gets well soon.
