Perhaps its time to look harder at trade with China if they won't keep a better eye on their exporters.
This stuff sounds down right criminal and I, as a consumer, will be watching to see how the Chinese handle it.

Re: Tainted Pet Food, fed to hogs
With China being the largest emerging economic market and the USA’s largest trade partner, trade relations with China are necessary for the USA. While I would never condone the export of tainted/dangerous products, the responsibility of what we import into our markets/borders falls squarely on the USA’s shoulders to inspect. Pet food will one day fall under the responsibility of either the Dept of Ag or the FDA to keep the pet food supply safe.

Deliberate deception and/or misrepresentation which endangers the public health is criminal. It is up to the Chinese to punish those who do so. It is darn near impossible for our inspection services to completely protect the public from this kind of deliberate criminal activity.
I will watch how the Chinese handle this and shop accordingly. I will encourage those I care about to do likewise.

Re: Tainted Pet Food, fed to hogs
Roadsend- I agree 100% that if it is criminal, deceptive, and the Chinese govt should punish those who do. However I also think the US govt has a responsibility to control what products we allow into our markets. If they are shipping bad products, between the US govt not allowing it in and the consumer rejecting the product on the shelves, the issue will resolve itself.

Exactly my point.
Trade with China can me mutually beneficial if both governments control the criminal actions of their own folks.
If we have to resort to blocking certain categories of product to assure public safety, it will only lead to furthur mistrust.

Re: Tainted Pet Food, fed to hogs
So my question, why do we feed a known tainted food source to Hogs, that we will butcher?. The food chain goes back to the pets or Human dinner table.
Bad enough to buy something most of everything we buy now, from lures to Gear.. is made in china...
As long as the BEER is safe!!!...
