First ocean boat
Just got my first sea worthy boat. It's a 21 foot Bell Boy cuddy cabin. I am very excited to do some ocean fishing this year, but also know how much there is to learn about the big blue. I have been out on the ocean several times and Know how unforgiving she can be. So with that said I may be hitting the site up with lots of questions for the more seasond veterans over the next couple of months. first, what do you guys think about mooring/fishing from winchester bay. Salmon rock fish stuff to for now. maybe Halibut tuna with more experience? maybe I could follow someone out when the weather gets better and the fishing turns on? I am looking forward to talking with the salty dogs, and know how much knowlege you guys have so thanks for the replys in advance and good fishin

Re: First ocean boat
Not much bottom fish opportunities out of Winchester once the outside 40 fathom closes. Better bottom fishing out of Charleston or Newport. Can be good/excellent Salmon fishing out of any of the three depending on the week

Re: First ocean boat
Thanks for the replys, I can't wait to get out there. I took her out to newport this weekend and cruised the bay all weekend. the crabbing is really slow only got 8 keepers all weekend. the boat runs awsome just a couple of kinks to work out. going from forward to nutral to reverse I am getting a bit of grinding sound. I can see where the adjustment is and I wuold like to get engagement into gears higher up on the throw of the throtle handle. have you guys ever adjusted one? it'S A 302 V8. The only other thing is a bit of slop in the steering wheel which causes me to fish tail abit at low speeds. again thanks for the replys they are all reasuring. good fishin

Re: First ocean boat
Oh please let's not start the Grady White thing. My wife loves those boats and wants one bad. She might just read this. But then again....

Re: First ocean boat
I too am new to the pond. I have been out a few times with Weather or Knot out of Charleston. Did pretty good on Lings. Just waiting for the weather to cooperate to take my own 21'er out. Fished some out of Homer over the last 10 years but really need to learn the bars here on the West coast. I guess they intimidate me the most till I get some crossings under my belt on my own ride. I've been told to stay clear of Winchester because Charleston or Newport really isn't that much farther. But, everyone has a different opinion. I know some who run an 18'er across Siuslaw. Of course they can pick their days due to being retired. Good luck and stay safe.
