Default Wallowa River Question

Does anyone know if summer or winter steelhead would be spawning in it in March? I thought it was winters but, I was told a winter run doesn't exist up there.

These steelhead you speak of are summer fish that winter over in the Columbia, Grande Rhonde and Wallawa rivers. As spring gets closer and the river warms up, They will begin to move again. They will spawn later in the spring than a typical summer run will.

Those are all Summer fish. The locals tend to call them "Winters" because they arrive in the Fall/Winter.
They spawn in late March and into April.
Many of those fish will Winter over in the Snake and make a big push on the Spring run-off while others hang around in the Wallowa and GR.

When I was seven years old, my buddy and I each caught one in front of my house on opening day of trout season. We didn't know any better....thought we had caught the mother of all trout
