Default N.F. Nehalem Hatchery Closure???!!!

I just heard that HB3334 passed out of the House of Reps. and to the Ways & Means Committee where it will soon be considered before being sent to the Senate in Salem. This bill would REQUIRE ODFW to spend 25% of its trout propagation budget topurchase catchable trout from private growers. This is up from the present l0% requirement that passed through a recent legislature and would impact the ODFW budget by $500,000.00!! When the 10% requirement was passed it resulted int he closure of some other hatcheries around the state including Wallowa and Willamette hatcheries. This new requirement would close the N.F. Nehalem hatchery which presently is THE source for the N.F. Nehalem (90,000) and Necanicum River (40,000) steelhead production - plus a lot of cohos for the N.F> Nehalem. This is a SERIOUS THREAT!!!! The reason it is tied into trout production is that with the reduction of coho production of a few years ago, the NF Nehalem hatchery utilizes that new space with trout production for a lot of North Coast lakes.

I urge you to write the
Ways & Means Comm. members to choke out this bill before it gets any further! Let's not let this destructive measure slip by on us!!!

While you're talking to your Reps and Senators about this ridiculous legislation and the points mentioned by Bill, ask them why they're so willing to buckle in to out of state interests!!

(Hint - how many of these trout growers are from Oregon or care about what happens in Oregon?)
