Default Family with big yard wants an 18-24 month old lab!

I know it’s a tall order, but let’s give it a shot!

Our family is looking to add a furry member to the mix! We have a big fenced yard for him/her to romp around in, a 8x12 covered kennel for when we are not home, and a 6 year old that will love and play with her new buddy! This dog will be well loved, live inside the house, and truly be part of the family! I am an avid waterfowl & upland hunter so the dog will get to do what comes naturally and loves to do! If you know of a dog that is a purebred, has no "issues", is potty trained and has basic training (sit, stay, heel, come ect.). Bonus points if the dog has been exposed to field/hunt tests or hunting! We are willing to pay for the dog.

I realize this is a lot to ask for, but we offer an exceptional home and are not willing to compromise…we owe that to the dog to find the right one for our family!

We live in Oregon City, OR and I am willing to travel up to two hours for the right dog!

Might want to check with Capin' Dan or Northwest Labrador Retriever Rescue

GSD,

Thanks for the suggestion! I know Dan and he actually had a thread selling "Owen" not too long ago. I was going to take Owen....but Dan had a change of heart after he did some more training

It was quite the bummer as my wife and daughter were all keyed up to take him home this weekend:shocked: . Now Im not sure who will be sleeping in the doghouse.

HH, I bet your Clack Co. Animal Control shelter there in the OC gets plenty of candidates for you.

GSD's suggestion of the rescue groups is excellent. And the Oregon Humane Society has all their dogs online with search feature.

How can you skip the whole puppy experience? Don't you have too many shoes and extra furniture to sacrifice?

Jim,

Thanks for the ideas and thoughts. While a puppy may works for some families, please respect the fact we choose not to have a puppy at this time. As you can see, we have something specific in mind. I realize the likelihood of finding this type of dog is slim. Perhaps a hunter is relocating, having a child, getting a divorce, or some other life event that forces them to give up their beloved four legged hunting partner. If that is the case, there is a great family waiting to provide a good home.

Jim

Yea what no guts as we are into a 7 month old Yellow one with a attitude. She is getting better but its been a trial on who will survive. She was so cute and nice at 7 weeks but at 3 months I was ready to send her to a new owner. We now have a lady that trains dogs for the blind helping us and Chinook has made a major turn for the better. She puts up with no BS from Chinook and its really a different dog now. She said train them at a young age about who are the pack leaders so there are no problems when they weigh 80 pounds.
