The Ifish Wave?
Okay, I've pondered this a few times in the past, mainly because I've seen so many Ifish stickers on cars and boats out there. Well I was thinking if we could think up of the official Ifish hand gesture. I'm sure I not the only guy that has spotted an Ifish sticker on a car or boat and wanted to say "Howdy" to a fellow Ifisher.
This morning I spotted a silver Ford pickup heading north on 192nd Ave in Vancouver/Camas. As I pulled up next to the guy I made this silly looking casting motion with my hand and mouthed "Ifish". He responded by smiling, shaking his head, and gave me a thumbs up!
So either I am now seen as some freak on the road and the poor guy was just glad that be rid of me or he actually understood that I was a fellow Ifisher saying "Hi".
Obviously it may be easier to stop and say Hi when you are boating, but it's trickier while you are driving. I can't be the first guy that has pondered this. Suggestions?

Re: The Ifish Wave?
Hey that was me in the silver ford. I thought the gesture you made was throwing a punch and saying "Irish" "Irish" ---"Fighting-Irish" Im a Notre Dame fan too.
Ok it wasnt me in the silver truck.. But Ive seen lots of ifish stickers too, I might wave, unless its a moderator (kidding)
I nominate the Forrest Gump wave. When he's on the shrimp boat and see's Lieutenant Dan on the dock?

Re: The Ifish Wave?
Last year while shad fishing on the OC a guy must have seen the ifish stickers on my boat because he quickly pulled his sweatshirt up, pointed to his ifish t-shirt, and gave me a thumbs up!

Re: The Ifish Wave?
irate drivers are always suggest I clean my car? something about a vacuum?
I give the two right fist pump, 4 reels with the left hand, smile. It works.
I met some fellow ifishers on the S Santiam, and the Clack yesterday. All I had to do was ask, its amazing how many of us are out there.

Re: The Ifish Wave?
That hook set motion might be ok if you don't have a cup of coffee in your hand. I can see a cell phone poking your eye out but that would be ok, one of our ifishers is an eye doctor. Some of our fellow eye fishers are cops and that hook set motion might get you out of a ticket.

Re: The Ifish Wave?
If I remember correctly the Ifish wave is the same wave the little rascals used.(Some of you will not remember the little rascals) Hand under chin and wave! I think Jennie made this official some years back.

Hey! don't go stealing one of my favorite dance moves and making it available to the public for free! If you must know you have to bob your head at the same time and also gyrate your hips....
The sign language sign for FISH is to take one hand and mimic the movement of a fish body as it swims away from your body to the front. sort of like a snake motion crawling away from you, with your fingers in the horizontal direction. The sign language sign for FISHING is, well, you look like you're casting and reeling (without gyrating hip, i know, boring......)

Re: The Ifish Wave?
I've known about the wave for a while, and have seen many stickers in that time. Just can't get the nerve to try the wave and hope the other guy knows. After reading all the posts about how many people pack heat while on the river, make me think twice about giving someone the spanky wave.
One day I will try it.

I didn't know if it was kosher to use the "BD" word here or not
BD is having a YT tourney on June 16-17th. It should be an interesting 2 days with all the "saluting" going on
