Re: Camping on the islands
Jennie, That sound like a great idea I was thinking about trying to do that for fall Chinook in my neck of the woods. As for the boat thing....My Bro has a 19ft Arima and he anchors about 20ft out from the island, attaches a rope to the back of the boat....drifts in to the island....unloads...lets out some line to straighten out the boat and ties it off....then when he wants to go out again he pulls in the boat It works for him and his little ones.....So he doesn't have to worry about the tides leaving him high-n-dry.

Great idea Jennie, count us in! There are some great places to tie up and Sandy beaches too. Sounds like a blast.

Re: Camping on the islands
Jen,
It sounds like fun but I'm not sure where the island is or how to get there. What kind of water are we talking about?
Would my 18' Seaswirl make it?
My family loves to camp and fish and I would enjoy meeting more folks from the board.
Looking forward to the replies....

Re: Camping on the islands
Let's DO THIS! I have always wanted to do this, and now, if we get all these people together to do this, we'll have a ball!
Just think, tents, campfires, rods first thing in the morning, or later, for those who want to sleep in.... barefoot, nice weather, kids playing in the sand, no ringing phones, no internet, no time... No watches allowed! Just friends, family, laughing, fish on!
Let's do it for two nights! This sounds so good to me right now, I'm about ready to pack up for a trial run. No, it's raining!
I just want to get away and FISH!
Jen

What a great idea! ... camp fires, no cell phones, no boom boxes, jet pumps at the crack of 0-dark-thirty.

Re: Camping on the islands
This sounds like a lot of fun. I , also, am unfamiliar with the island or islands in question but it sounds like a good time. I have seen some anchoring systems for sale that are basically nylon rope with the core pulled out and replaced with bungee cord so the line can stretch. You drop anchor, motor forward, get out and the bungee pulls the boat back out. You do of course need to have a second line to the bank to pull the boat back in for the morning run. I saw an Aalaskan show where the anchor was left on the bow, the boat drifted out, and a pull line released the anchor from the deck. The problem is, I don't remember how they got the boat back in....a minor problem, I'd say. My sled is pretty light so I have quite a few options. I've got a lot of camping gear so let's figure out a time and date. Great idea. By the way, there are a lot of crabs there for an added bonus.

Camping on the islands
I want to get a whole bunch of people to camp on one of the islands out of Westport area this summer and fish for steelies.
The only problem we have come up with is the tides on the islands and the big jet boats ome people have.
If you pull it way up, that would be a bear to move at low tide! Impossible!
How could we get a bunch of people to do this together? Wouldn't that be a blast?
We could take the kids, not worry about a darn thing... NO CELL PHONES ALLOWED! hee hee... and just fish and bbq and party!
It would be great if we got a couple shuttle boats, so those without transport could join us.
The whole ifish fam damily!
In fact, what do you think bout doing the ifish annual fishstock over there?
