My cousin Steve and I went to Lost Creek Sunday. On the water at 7:48, rigged up and started trolling the heavy duty stuff, Ford fenders, wedding rings and worms. Went upriver near the east bank in about 60 to 75 feet of water. Steve put a chunk of weight (2oz) on his rig and I only put 1/2 oz ahead of the rudder and we both got nothing. After about 20 minutes I took my weight off. Nothing. Put on a silver Luhr Jensen #4 lure that I had taken the treble hook off of, and tied on the wedding ring and worm. About 14 inches to the wedding ring and then about 16 inches to the worm. Steve reeled in and took off his Ford fender and put on some smaller trolling stuff and.........still nothing. Twenty more minutes and Steve reels in and puts on a frog colored flatfish #7, whamo, and then I started to catch them too. We worked along the east shore and continued to catch fish. As we rounded the point the bite quit, so we turned around and went back through again and caught 10 to 12 more fish each. At about 10:55 they quit biting so we gathered up our stuff and headed up river past Peyton bridge. Around the first point we put our stuff in again and started to troll, nothing until we got straight across from Red Rock and we started to catch fish again, but just a few. We trolled up and down around Red Rock and the bite seemed too slow, then we started experimenting. Just out of sheer frustration I put on a piece of Berkeley "Gulp" nightcrawler with my converted lure and wedding ring setup. I started getting hit and hit a lot but no hookups, I reeled it in and cut it so that I only had about 1/2 to 3/4 inch hanging past the hook. Now we are talking catch fish! It was almost ridiculous. Steve finally reeled in his stuff and put on a Blue Fox #4 silver blade spinner from which I had removed the hook. Then he tied on a snelled bait hook added the Gulp nightcrawler chunk and he was in business. We quit counting because we were too busy catching and releasing. We laughed ourselves silly. We finally conceded at 3:45 and started home.
