The Beckman with a coated net is hard to beat. Many steelhead /Salmon folks are asking Frabil to make a larger rubber net. They have one that is awesome, but just too small for large steelhead and salmon.

I've used the Beckman for years and have never had a spring wear out. I've had a hoop rust through but only after that net was in my boat for at least five years without ever coming out of the weather (or salt water).

The coated one is great, the hooks never get into the mesh. Also, I use the regular soft mesh for all my fishing were I may be doing catch and release (like Columbia or steelhead fishing) as this soft mesh doesn't do any damige to fish slime or scales.

I use the big Beckman with the 6' handle and I love it - spring works fine every time. I used to spray a little wd40 on it, but I have a slick net holder on my new boat so I never break it down. I've had it for 4 years now and it is in great shape. I have the soft bag and it is a ***** to get hooks out of it. Sounds like I should buy a coated one as well.
