Called a bobcat while bear hunting. (PICs)
Yesterday I was calling along a cut/swamp for bears and I happened to notice a tan stump. After a couple of double takes I raised my rifle thinking it was a yote. Realising it was a cat I took some pics. It stayed for about ten minutes, but never came closer.
It was 100 yards exactly (ranged) and my little camera actually did ok.

Re: Called a bobcat while bear hunting. (PICs)
I called this one to about 17 yards last year bear hunting. The pic is not good due to the crappy camera I had, but you can tell its a bobcat....LOL.

Thats a nice picture from a hundred yards.
Was it a pretty good size cat? It looks like it was in the pic.
What call sounds do you use for bear?

Nice pic I saw one the other day out on a skid road hunting. Are they breeding this time of year or have a litter? I sure tend to see them more at certain times of the year. A bonus for sure.

Thanks.
The stump he is sitting next to is almost waist high (I am 5' 9"). I was just glad I had my camera with me. Too many times you miss these types of opportunities.

Nice picture. Lots of fun calling in those cats.

The cat in your photo looks like a big Tom, great looking cat. That is the exact type of cat I was hoping to call in during the bobcat season.
We didnt have any luck on them at all.

I too am interested in what call sound you were using to trick this Bob, the duration ... and pauses ... if you don't mind?
After 10 years of trying to kill a cougar with a bow by stand calling ... I'm switching weapons, using electronics and decoys and learning to ask questions ... IMO there are no experts in cougar calling ... just a few lucky guys out there.

Re: Called a bobcat while bear hunting. (PICs)
John,
The one I called up in the above picture I spotted first at several hundred yards. I whipped out a mouth reed....all I had......and began a whiney dying critter sound. two or three, 5 to 10 second sequences and he was in my lap. Snapped a picture, talked to him outloud and then had to stand up and walk towards him to run him off.......it was pretty cool.
I think they are keying in on fawns as it was late May and he was out in the middle of a clear cut, mid day snooping around.

Nice pictures. What kind of camera did you use. How easy is it to use. I'm in the market for one.

Re: Called a bobcat while bear hunting. (PICs)
I will try to answer the best I can.
As for calling, I was using a call that I turned on a lathe with reeds I purchased. I started with typical rabbit distress tones and cadence then went to fawn distress. I was probably calling about 30 minutes when I noticed him watching me.
My camera is nothing special. It is a Canon PowerShot S2 IS, 5 Megapixels, 12 times Optical Zoom. It has more features then I will ever use, but it is very easy, point and shoot type camera.
