Default Rabid Robin!

For about the last three weeks a Robin has been attacking the window that's next to my front door. He sits on the porch railing and then charges head-first right into the glass at full speed. Thonk! Every morning....right at daybreak.....for hours on end......Whock!! Thwap!! Bonkabonk!! The window is double-paned, so it kinda sounds like a racquetball hitting the house. He usually quits by noon, but until then he's absolutely determined to kick the crap out of that "other" bird he sees in the window.
I tried getting a picture, but he spooks as soon as he sees the camera. He's always back, though. It's starting to get creepy. A little too Hitchcock. Just before this started, a woodpecker attacked the house.
I'm wondering if the birds around here have been getting into one of my neighbors' meth labs. Or maybe it's a reincarnated relative trying to tell me something?

A male defending its territory from the other male in the window. We had that problem until we gave up keeping the windows clean. They make hawk cutouts to hang in windows, maybe time for creative papercutting.

Or hang a picture of you holding a camera in the window.

we had that going on once. Right up until the cat found out. All that was left was some feathers below the window.....

Today he took a worm break around 1100, but by 1230 he was back at it.
I left for work at 1330, and he was still beating his bird brains out. Thwack! Fall to the deck, flop around, stagger to feet, shake the cobwebs out, jump back on railing, repeat. Over....and over....and over....

At the rate he's going, he won't live through mating season. He'll either kill himself or I'll do it for him.
If this maniacal bird mates, I'm afraid that a half-dozen of his brain-damaged offspring will be back next year to bust through the window and trash my house.

When I was a kid we had one of those guys. Tried a plastic owl, the robin just sat on it.

Dad tried a BB gun, minus the open window. Whoops.

Borrow a cat, or leave cat food out on the deck in the mornings. That should solve the issue.

My wife's name is Robin and sometimes she acts rabid, I just sleep in the other room. )
