Default Lowrance LCX-111C on a NR Seahawk 20'

Anyone running one of these units on a NR Seahawk 20 footer?

Hopefully take delivery of my new 20' Seahawk LE next wednesday and have bought one of the Lowrances and am wondering how to mount on the new boat. Put a deposit down Saturday on a 20" with a 150 and T8 Yamahas want to fish thursday but have to thrash to get the VHF and 111 in it as well as the rod holders.

Thanks in advance.

I have the lcx 110c the same unit without the harddrive and love it! The resolution is awesome and the screan size is amazing to run sonar and map screan the same time and see everything clearly. The unit also has a great feature, you can plug a radar unit directly into it and use the same screan for radar. Lots of power to really see fish and determine how large and thick they are. If I see fish I fish, if I do not see fish I do not fish (sturgeon) it makes a huge difference.

Use a Johnny mount and remove it every trip.

I don't have that boat, but have that unit! just a little advise about it, that I learned from a past BAD experience! BE VERY CAREFUL with it when not in the boat!!!!!!!!!!! that hard drive is very sensetive! I just set mine down on the workbench at home and even being careful that little bit of tap on the workbench made me unit have to go in for warrenty work! NOW I treat it like a EGG!!! Buy a PELIAN case to protect it!

And the new navionics 2007 chip for that unit is awesome addition!!

I Love my unit! best part of the whole boat!

Which side of the boat do you have it mounted on? Was thinking of putting it on the passenger side. I like the last post above have the unit but not the boat. Get the boat minus kicker motor next Wednesday they don't have a T* for me yet so will take it back down when the get it in.

I have mine on the drivers side, my NW jet has a fairly large dash area. The passenger side should work fine as well since everything is large and easy to read.

I personally like to push buttons, zoom in, zoom out, look at different areas on the charts when anchored... so next to me was a good thing. When hunting fish I like to see everything! That unit really helps

We'll I've got a NR 20' Seahawk 150 Yamaha and T8. I had a Lowrance but it kept going out on me. The antennas would get knocked out anytime the GPS was used near someone else who was using radar.

They did a recall and sent me a new antenna, but I had trouble with that one to.

Good customer support from Lowrance, but I coudn't go with a product that would lose GPS when I needed it the most. IE: The fog when others are using radar.

Hopefully they've fixed the problem in the new units.

Good luck!

I've got a Lowrance 26Hd and while I like it it's been back to the factory once already and I'm now having issues with the GPS module working intermitantly. If I was going to drop that kind of cash I'd seriously look at the new Garmin units.

I went with the non hd thinking that they might have a problem with marine conditions. I love my Lcx-110c!

That is exactly what mine was doing... Best we (Lowrance customer support and I) could determine, this was caused by damage from nearby radars... That said... I was never close enough to any other radar that it should have caused a problem. IE: Tied up in a hog line etc. That makes me think that they are extreamly sensitive to radars.

I hate to say it, but I've lost faith in the Lowrance GPS. I like the company and I like how they've included the option for radar at a lower cost. However, I have GPS for a reason: Safety! If I can't count on it, then what good is it?

I have to admit that I would look at another brand. Garmin, Raymarine etc...

Is your units currently up to date with all the latest updates? They have two now one for the gps, and one for the head units software. ZACK!

Jet,
Does yours have the charts built in like the other ones or do you have to buy them seperate. The one I looked at (like yours) had a form of chart built in that showed contour lines and depths in the ocean and Columbia river.

I got a LMS 480 that has been great for the past three years but want to go a little bigger and get some color.

Boats02, I'm pretty sure I'm nowhere near any radar unless it's coming from aircraft. I suppose if that is Lowrance's theory there is no need to call them. They were not a lot of help on my other issue. I think I'll do as Zack suggests and get an update and see what happens.

Chris, The HD has 2 or 3 maps preloaded so you don't have to buy them seperately. It's a good feature and one reason I choose the 26DH. The 26 and 111 series (or whatever they new #'s are) are also radar capable. Just add the antenna. IMO the 111 is too big but that is me. The 26 is plenty big enough to spilt the screen gps/sonar and not feel like it's crampt.

Waterdog:
Let us know how the software upgrade works.
I'd love to hear some news to restore my faith in Lowrance. Like I said, I'm glad they're offering a reasonably priced unit that is radar capable.

Let me know if there is anything I can do you help. You've helped me in the past and are always a great contributor here. I'd be happy offer any assistance I can.

Brian

...exactly what rich said on what charts they come with. the hd comes with charts and the non hd does not. For every unit that comes with a hd lowrance has a unit that is one number smaller that has sd cards. I personally went with the Naticpath charts this time and love them. The have river flow, tides, countour lines, and all the rest that the other charts have... the best part is they cost $99 at BW or on a popular auction site you can find them for $70.

I thought the unit might be too large and took my neighbors lcx 104c out for a test (pulled my lcx16c out and plugged in the 104) drive and fell in love with it. I am not a tall guy and the lcx110c does not block my view.

Note to all. You must upgrade all tranducers, and gps units with the new equiptment even if you have a previous version of a lcx unit. In the my case the lcx 16c and 104c use a non powered gps unit and the new versions reuire power. The newer lcx units have a high power sonar mode and you can only use it with the newer sonar units. When I upgraded I was hoping that I could just change out the lcx unit.

TB pm me if you want to know more on my bottom finder.

Update: I did the software update last night. So far it's been working fine. The GPS has quick lock up on satellites never got an error the 20+ times I turned it off and on today. ......

Here are pictures of one installed on a 20' Intruder. It is a big unit for the dash size but for viewing it is great. It does limit the knuckle room on the steering wheel but there is a couple of inches between the two. I did some extra security things when I installed it, since we keep it in the water like: security screws, the eye bolt, and pad lock cable. It is a power hungry unit so make sure you have the switches in place to kill the power when not i use. I am using a Navionics card I had on a previous unit. The card shows the Columbia shipping channel outline and center line. The built in map only shows the center line.
