Default Sandy River Report

I couldn't Believe how many boats there was out there, I lost count after I used all my fingers and toes and whatever else helped me count. I Fished the lower run (between Dabney and Lewis and Clark) and Heard of a Springer caught and a Steelhead hooked up. It seemed at one of the holes there was 4 boats in the hole and 3 more waiting to get in the hole. I just happened to slip right on by. Truly Amazing crowded day at it's finest. I guess fishing was pretty slow every where else as well.
On a Brighter note, I got to meet Artwo, Very pleasant and brief aquaintance. He was working a hole pretty good at the time. My Maiden Voyage with the new boat was a complete success. Just learning how to menuver it was quite a task. By the end of the drift it was quite comfortable also. By for now, Smily

Smily,
Very nice to meet you on the river Saturday and nice new boat for you as well. Well, it was preety crowded but not as bad as I've seen in the past. Including the car completely submerged just below the Sark Street bridge. The Troutdale police and dive team were there but I did not here if there was anyone inside and I didn't get to close of a look since I had my six year old daughter with me. I did here later that the car went in the river some time during Friday night when I talked talked to the guys who called it in, they found it while making a pass in the hole. Well enough for the exciting stuff, our day was not very productive with no fish or even a nibble. I heard of one springer lost at the boat and I saw a nice 30lb'r (yep 30lbs, I saw it weighed, nice feeeeesh) taken by a client of a guide friend of mine. His clients that day were a father son team (I believe) and the kid got the fish, he looked to be about twelve and was very proud. I fished all day with my sixteen and six year old daughters and as always we had a wonderful day together on the river, I love fishing with my kids and they're usually pretty good luck to boot. My overall impreesion of the Sandy right now is "slow" with a few fish around but you have to fish pretty hard to find them. It can only get better from here, it's still a little early yet for this river in my opinion.
