Default Native Steelhead Adventures (Mark, \'Stew, RT)

The excellant late native steelhead C&R season in NW Oregon and NW Wash. have really made up for the lack of good hatchery returns earlier. Enough so that some friends and I have only fished springers sparingly (so far). ...

Today on Fri. 4/20, Mark Anderson ( www.firstcastjigs.com ) and I worked over a fresh late run of Tillamook nates with his new Shalappen feather hackled chrome beaded
jigheads, baited with a variety of scented bass rubber - pink worms, simulated egg clusters, and small crayfish among them. I had the lucky day hooking fish for a change, and got the big one too. The first pic is Mark with his nate.

This is my hen weighing in the low teens; hooked on the second cast very early in the morning (by the look on my face it doesn't look like I realize where I am yet).

Releasing a nate.

And from an earlier multi-fish day filmed by The Hot Tamale Outdoor Show, hosted by Scott Kappes, here's Bigstew with a tough nate buck weighing in the low teens.

The show will be aired in the metro area on cable TV Ch. 11 on Mon. May 7th at 9:00 p.m. Check their site for other channels, areas, and dates. ... There will be fresh nates for another week or 2, and soon after summers and springers to dangle jigs or colored worms in front of!

R.T.

I am having problems pulling those pictures up. Each time I get into this link, it prompts me to enter a password, etc. What's happening here?

I have been editing the show and it looks really good...except for the fact that I didn't hook-up!

Let's talk soon,

Hey RT. All those pictures are the same fish!! I am not sure those are steelhead, because I don't beleive steelhead have a red X inside a black square box. I think those are the same fish others post ocasionally post on here. I have even posted that same picture.

I talked to Shane earlier and said to go into my Photopoint albums and move my fishing pics from private albums to 'recreational' albums. ... I found out that the photo hosting sites, such a Photopoint and Picturetrail no longer send pics to other websites. To view the 4 pics mentioned above you need to access www.photopoint.com and on the upper right type in my reeltruth1@aol.com addy to get to my Steve Hanson directory. Then click on View albums and then on 'recreation', where the pics are stashed along with other fish pics. Thanks.

Shane, yes that must be the Teeny reach. I had to keep backing up so I could take the picture. Just kidding there Steve. It was a nice big native Steelhead

Good looking fishies guys. Did you get a picture of RT falling in? Falling down? Come on I know he did something silly. Steve remember when we talked about the long rods not balancing..... The 11' lami I bought had a funky handle but it put the spinning reel far enough back with a long fore grip to allow a balance point on the fore grip. Sweet set up for a float rod. The longer rods need a more spey style handle to allow for a balance point to minimize the rotation force created by the length. 9" rear cork with a 11" foregrip.

Those are some great looking steelhead. I have two questions:

1) Can you buy this show on tape? I don't live in Portland and want to see it.

2) I've always read and believed that raising nates out of the water and holding them causes internal damage due to the force being applied by gravity on their abdomen? I see many photos of fish being photographed while being held 1/2 out of the water, is this also damaging? I may be way off base, just wondering.
