Default May's contest... Need Help!!!

Ok ifish guys and gals,

TH Custom Rods is hosting the May, ifish.net contest.

The winner will receive a new, 9' 8-12# Rainshadow rod built by TH Custom Rods. The rod will include a rod sock, wood insert reel seat Fuji Hardloy guides and a two color inlay finish. (Dark Blue w/ silver inlay I believe.) A $180 dollar value.

The contest will run through the month of May. We should have the rod done shortly and pictures will be available on the contest page through the month of May.

The winning essay will be selected by our own Marty Peterson of "Gone Fishing Guide Service"

Here is where I need help.

Jennie and I have decided that the contest will be a written contest. Memebers will submit a story about ????
That's what we can't come up with.. the essay topic. SO... what I am going to do is open up the topic for suggestions. We need your help, and for your efforts you will receive a new TH Custom Rods hat if your suggestion is used as the topic for the contest. Kind of a contest before the contest!

THANKS for your help.....

Travis

What would be more appropriate than a good old fishing story or report, perhaps judged by how usefull it was to other ifish members. Of course, coroborating photo's should be a requirement, don't you think?

Well, since this contest if for a new rod, maybe a essay on the dumbest way to break a new rod, or actual stories of rod breakage episodes. I know that I have lost some of my favorite rods by bonehead moves.

"Looking At Life From The Proper Angle" An essay describing, the parallels, axioms and lessons one takes from 'fishing' that can be applied to the everyday trials of life.

How about an essay contest about the most embarassing thing you did while out fishing. It has to be a true story, that can be verified if necessary. It may bring out some real fun stories, from some honest fishermen and fisherwomen, who don't mind telling a little story about themselves.

Thanks for the Contest

I think that the best subject would be "What makes an angler".

It's a broad question that has a lot of potential and no real "right" answers.

We are on the right track... Our orginal thought was to include kids, a "best kid fishing pic and story" since my kids are such a huge part of our fishing adventures... but neither Jennie nor I have the time to post all the pics.. any volunteers?

A quick correction, I received an email from Jennie stating that our contest will run through June.. so it will be two moths long... Thanks Jennie...

Keep up the good work ifish people..

My topic suggestion would be; "The Passing of a Heritage, Why I Taught My Kids to fish".

Great idea and an awsome prize for the lucky winner .

Many of the ideas mentioned above were on my list. Hmm...

How about "Fry talk",
Naratives relating to early memories of our first fishing experiences and the effect of those early experiences on us today. These may include passing on the tradition or how we have been enlightened to enjoy the sport through respect etc...

Good luck picking a winner...

Thanks for sponsoring the contest. Your father and you build quality rods, so whoever the lucky recipient is will end up buying a handful. (OK, that's one possible essay topic: sucking up to the contest sponsors!)

How essays and fish stories about "If I only had one rod to fish [salmon/ steelhead] the rest of my life, it would be a . . . ."?

Maybe they figured all the 'married with children' type needed an extra rod to go with all the others they never get to use since they're always taking kids to little league and piano practice, while us with no kids are out actually catching all the fish.

Hey thanks Travis,
I sent an e-mail to you but I got an error message so I don't know if it went through, it says it did but I'm not sure. Let me know if you got it or not. As far as the comments on those without kids, all I can say is. I personally find great pleasure in teaching others to fish and mostly kids. Even though you don't have kids of your own or yours are grown and gone there are many other opportunities to teach kids about fishing. Take the neighbor kid, the grandkids, volenteer through many wonderful organizations but please don't critisise. Remember, it's not just about how to fish, it's what fishing all about and I believe we all know the meaning of that, or you ought to.
