Any Port Angeles Halibut Reports?
Would like to know if anyone had any good/bad luck fishing Halibut monday. Any reports would be appreciated. Considering 7 hour trailer pull for this weekend. Thanks in advance.

Re: Any Port Angeles Halibut Reports?
The guys that got out seemed to do pretty well. I haven't heard of anything big,but some nice fish in the 20-40lb range.
Weather permiting,I'm going out to PA this weekend. Friday looks nasty with 25-30 knot winds, but as of now Saturday and Sunday look good.

Re: Any Port Angeles Halibut Reports?
Don't know about PA, but Port Townsend was a no go for monday(weather) but yesterday( fri) we got out and the butts hit the decks. Moonshine got two around the 40lb range and switched over to Blackmouth trolling and nailed two of those. We got a chicken around 25lb. The weekend weather looks good and the butts are here.Last nights fresh halibut was sooooo gooood.

Re: Any Port Angeles Halibut Reports?
Tracker,
I was thinking about going on Saturday but the weather looks a little better on Sunday. Are you going on Sunday because of the weather or just availbility?? I've never fished out of Port Angeles but a friend gave me these coordinates that I'm going to try. If I go Sunday I'll monitor 68 and 16, good luck!
Dallas Bank 48,11.60 122, 57.46
Dallas Bank 48,12.80 122, 56.25
Dallas Bank 48,08.58 122,59.36
McCurdy Point 48,10.12 122. 52.34
Green Point 48,10.59 123,08.5.
31-36 48,12,26. 123,08.18
Rock Pile (PA) 48,14.25 123,20.20

Re: Any Port Angeles Halibut Reports?
Lets me work on saturday so as to take time off when the weather is better on the outside! I think either day would be good. Hard to beat a 1 to 2 foot wind chop with no swell!

Tracker,
Looks like I'll see you out on Sunday. Are you going to try any or the spots I listed above? The Rock Pile(PA) looks pretty good to me.

Re: Any Port Angeles Halibut Reports?
I like to fish that in a period of weaker tides. I have trips 4/26-28 and again 5/24-26. Based on the theory that the current moves slower on the bottom than the top (the bottom friction slows down the current), I troll with the kicker slowly against the tide and try and match the boat drift with the lure drift. It does help keep the lines straight up and down.
I do 31-36, Green Pt and the Rockpile to the east and Freshwtr Bay and Whiskey Creek to the west. If anybody finds any hot spots, send me a PM. I promise to keep it secret LOL.
Biggest negative for me is that stupid Edmonds/Kingston ferry... with my Seahawk and truck its 115 bucks round trip

Re: Any Port Angeles Halibut Reports?
Tracker,
I'll be putting in before 7, too. I'll be in my blue 21' North River you see in my aviator. If I hook one I'll call and tell you where.
Barchaser,
Just put your Seahawk in at Edmunds and go by boat!

Re: Any Port Angeles Halibut Reports?
I got a late start on Sunday and missed the low tide. I ran out to the rock pile and didn't hook up. The wind picked up and it was a little rough for my boat so I headed back to the Port Angeles coast/shore. I fished among the 40 boats there as the wind picked up. I was by myself and wasn't successful back trolling and I was drifting to fast to keep my bait on the bottom. The people that did catch butts did so back trolling using black label herring.
Tracker, was that you at the rock pile in a Stripper around 9:00 am??

Re: Any Port Angeles Halibut Reports?
I fished sunday out on Hein. Started off real rough out there, but managed to get out.
Got nothing to show for my efforts.
I think I saw Tracker pulling out of John Wayne marina, at about 4:30 right as we were pulling into the dock.. He was gone when we got the boat on the trailer, so I dont know if they got any.
I did see 2 Butts being carried up the dock, so at least there were 2 guys going home happy yesterday.

Re: Any Port Angeles Halibut Reports?
Yea that would have been us pulling out at 4:30. We fished Eastern and Partridge and the bank out from the island closest to John Wayne(cannot think what it is called right now) and got one cabezon. Thats it, except for the show on the radio between a large freighter and Vancuuver Traffic control. We were listening to this exchange with much laughter and later would just start laughing at the thought of it! The poor traffic control lady in Canada was trying to get across to a non-english speaking freighter captain the fact that he could not slow down and wait for the pilot to come to the ship. He had to stay at speed or anchor at a certain spot. The captain would come back with complete "jiberish", his form of english I guess! Traffic control desparately tried not to allow any emotion to show through but toward the end she was getting very angry! It was a great time! Once again ifish provided the oportunity to meet new crew and as always they were great! Thanks to Outerlimits and Rubberboot for the laughs and good help at the dock!
And yes Olybirds those were nice butts hanging there at the dock!

Re: Any Port Angeles Halibut Reports?
Tracker, now that I read your report above I know that must've been you I heard talking on the VHF channel 68 on Sunday am. We were fishing Possession for salmon and I heard someone on 68 saying they were in the straits and had one cabezon.
You weren't real clear or loud but I was picking you up and that's what 30 miles or more?
Salmon fishing was excellent by the way.

Re: Any Port Angeles Halibut Reports?
Yea I really want Stickfish to check my radio but I do think it is working fine. I was going to change the way the cable is run, Looped and coiled so as to not look too good, but did not want to mess with a good thing!
On another note, there is a lot of code talk up that way. I really want to know where "New York" is? Dont remeber if it was a good spot or just direction to a good spot but would like to know! One poor guy was trying really hard not to give out too much info but his buddy came out and directly spilled the beans although I dont think he was trying to. Made me really wish I was off the columbia and hearing direct GPS numbers given out! The Salty Dogs rock!
