Default Anchor rope

I was given a couple of used climbing ropes that were used for Rappelling. They can no longer be safely used for climbing.

I think one would be great to use on the ramp at Siskey to lower the boat.

But what about using that type of rope as an anchor line? Anyone use that kind of rope before?

Thanks

Cureless, are the ropes "static" no stretch or "dynamic" some stretch. If it is a static rope I would check it very carefully before using it to lower my boat. To check your climbing ropes pull the entire length between your thumb and forefinger you are feeling for flat spots in the kern "core of the rope" and abraisions in the mantle "covering sheath of the rope" either of these will reduce the load rating on your rope. The standard climbing line is 12mm (1/2)inch and is rated at 10,000 to 12,000lbs if it has been shock loaded even once that rating is cut to 2 or 3,000lbs. These ropes need to be kept clean as dirt and grit penetratet the mantle and cut the kern inside also you have to be careful not to step on these ropes as that also damages the kern. When they fail they fail violently, so be careful.
