sturgeon movement
I know that sturgeon in the Columbia move around and follow the feed, but do all white sturgeon migrate to salt at some point every year and if so, why? What is usually the best month for the Astoria area? Thanks,
Steve

Hey Bait, the only thing gross is your catch ratio!
Astoria has been good for me in June and July.

Re: sturgeon movement
Sturgeon migration sounds better? sturgeon movement= scary! I was talking with a guy that works at Englund M. in Ilwaco and he told me he uses a small cork to float his bait above the crabs. Wouldn't that float it up above the sturgen as well?

Re: sturgeon movement
Just based on observation, I'd say they follow the feed.
Smelt in January, February, March = Longview;
Shad in May, June = Bonneville;
Anchovy and clams in June, July, August, September = Astoria.
These represent the major 'movements'. I'm sure there are others. Anyone?

Hey TH,
Well I ordered another, only this time I got an outback with the SJ and ordered it exactly the way I wanted it. Got to visit it yesterday and tell the guys where to put the rod holders and such. Boat will be ready next Friday It’s been a long 8 weeks let me tell ya. Gotta thank my Dad and Bait o eggs for helping out on my boat withdrawals.

Re: sturgeon movement
Thanks for all the thoughtful responses. And thanks for having such a great informative site here Jennie! I have checked out most of the discussion boards of this type and this one is tops! I am amazed that you have so many friendly, knowledgeable and helpful fishers on board.
Will send a donation soon to help things along.
