Default help with anchor

Going to buy an anchor for use on the Columbia for sturgeon fishing. What is the best type of anchor for this? I noticed there is a couple different types of anchor pullers, do all work the same, one better than another? Thanks

Get the EZ-puller with an A-3 or A-4 bouy. Get an A-4 if your fishing below Bonnie. The anchor should be a "river" or "rocking chair" type. Size of anchor depends on size of boat. I bought the "kit" that Fisherman's sells, bouy, rope, puller and chain.

Make sure you watch the demo tape on the anchor system on how to use it. I sure enjoyed it!

And for Gods sake, put some chain on. THe length of your boat is reccommended, but 12 feet of fairly heavy works fine. ITs a MUST.

Plastic coated lead chain to your anchor
will save your boat too. Well worth it.
Don't anchor too close behind hog lines.

See my note under "re-open." Let's go Wednesday! I finally bought my Capt. Hook type pirate hat from a costume place. Also have my official pirate knife to stick between my teeth. When they anchor too close or too close below, we will drop off the anchor and VERY POLITELY ask them to move (as I talk through my knife in my teeth and pirate hat cocked to one side .

If not, TIE THEM SCURVY DOG'S TO THE YARDARM!

I also have signs, they say "We are not Shad fishing!"

If they are too close, side to side, we will let them get completely back into the line and set, THEN when they pull the bumpers out we will say "If you need those, you are too close!

I'm off Wednesday. Still wanna' go? You can anchor to my rear cleat anytime.

I had a standard danforth anchor on my 20 Weldcraft with plenty of heavy chain and it wouldn't hold my new 23' North River every time so I bought an anchor system from Motion Marine - it works great. They sell a rubber coated (like the spray-in bedliner stuff) rocking chair type anchor for about $80 and the anchor holder is another $80 but worth it because it holds the anchor out over the bow of the boat - really slick set-up. I then went to a rigging store on Columbia Blvd. here in Portland and bought 8' of stainless steel chain - really nice looking stuff, about $6 a foot though. 8' was plenty to hold me even in the strongest Columbia currents as long as you have enough scope out. This anchor system works great for me and is easy to pull with the buoy and boat. The chain attaches to the top of the anchor with a zip-tie which will break free when the anchor is stuck so you can pull it from the base.

****** - Where are you fishing this weekend? I have been watching the anchoring techniques at OC this season. Starting on Wednesday I have encountered a few unusuall styles being performed. I wanna come Hog line with you and use a couple of the tips I have gotten.

I found a new spot on my motor to tie off the anchor rope.
