Default Tuna Bill 2007

All this talk about fondling gear, tuna fantasies, and preparations for the coming season got me wondering about how much guys have spent on boat farkles and tuna tackle for this year. Not talking about boat payments, maintanence, repairs, storage, etc. Just on functional items added to the boat or new gear specifically bought with tuna in mind.

I'm nearly ready for the season, and think I'm getting off cheap. Anybody willing to throw out some numbers? Maybe we should talk in code just in case the better halves read this forum.

Some things are better left unsaid. All I know is that my family of 5 is on a steady diet of Quaker Oats, Macaroni & Cheese, Hot Dogs and Top Ramen. Gov. Ted might have been better served becoming a TUNA! fisherman for a week or two.

Hello, Charkbait? Yeah, I need to add a couple of items to that order. Is it too late to make this week's shipment or will it go out with the next batch?

No wife to complain, but I don't keep track. I'd spend it anyway, so no need to keep track. It is considerable though, doing my part to keep the economy going, just not a bunch of new clothes--well, except for some rain gear! Certainly nothing stylish in the usualy sense!

My off season budget for fishing toys is a boat buck a month. Never had a month under budget. Can not wait for offshore fishing season to start up. Shopping is more expensive than fishing and not near as satisfying.

I'm just spending my kid's inheritance. I'm afraid of keeping track of what I
spend on preseason gear just getting ready. I know that my tax returns are gone already.

Offseason:
$4-5k in the off season for boat upgrades and rod/reel/tackle aquisitions.

Inseason:
$400-600 per week for fuel, and expendables.
$200-400 per month rod/reel/line/lures upkeep and purchases in summer.
$300 per month ice and vac pac supplies.
$300-400 per month Travel/truck fuel/dinning away from home.

Pretty soon I won't need the big offseason upgrade expenditure but I am sure I will find some other way to spend the money.

I'm on track with 5-Salts' figures. Except for the offseason figure, I'm at least what he quoted for the in-season stuff. That's why it's important to make sure you get into the fish when you're out there! Not very economical if you catch 5 fish for 5 guys 30-50 miles offshore IMHO.

That's why I have been known for solo tuna fishing - hard to aurgue with 15-20 fish for one guy. Good days work as well.
