Default Fishing in Waldport?

What kind of fishing is there in Waldport this time of year? Is there Sturgeon? Some friends of mine are going down tommorrow for the weekend and would like to tie into something with fins. JB

I have heard of sturgeon in Waldport but they are mostly a myth. No springers either. Their time will be better spent finding access to any beach near yachats and fishing for surf perch... Joe

I would skip the river altogether, unless they plan to crab. Last week a guy I work with and a friend caught 40 some pinktail surf perch at the mouth of Beaver creek just north of there, and my son cuaght a few perch and 2 cabezons at seal rock just 2 days ago.
Good luck

I ran over to try for some perch today. Caught one nice pink tail on my first cast but that was it. Also tried mouth of Beaver creek for an hour or so with no luck, but the waves were really churning up the sand and the wind was keeping my casts from getting out too far. The real bummer was missing the oyster farm closing time by just a few minutes. Really had a hankering for some BBQ'D oysters...

I threw the dog in the back in the back of the truck for this trip. He's a 7 year old chocolate lab that spends way more time cooped up in the backyard than he deserves. Just getting out and running around in the surf made him look 4 years younger than he is, or at least acts most of the time. I'm gonna try to get him out more often, it's really easy to forget he's back there with all the other stuff going on in life... Joe

Joe, what do you use for perch? Jigs or bait?

I'm more confident using bait, but lately i've been fishing hot pink crappie jigs. You can cast without worrying about it flying off, and when the fish are in they slam em'. I do put some mikes shrimp oil on them... Joe
