Scientists Say Dieting Does Not Work
Oh Boy ! I am going to go home tonight and pig out. Pass the gravy please
http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/heal...p?newsid=67422
They discovered that it would have been better for most of them if they had not gone on a diet at all.
"Their weight would be pretty much the same, and their bodies would not suffer the wear and tear from losing weight and gaining it all back," explained Dr Mann.
Their findings show that:
-- People on diets typically lose 5 to 10 per cent of their weight in the first 6 months.
-- But 33 to 66 per cent regain more than what they lose within 4 to 5 years.

Re: Scientists Say Dieting Does Not Work
Their right, Diets don't work.
You have to make a life style change. The wife and I made the change 1/1/07. Started eating smarter and exercising. I'm sure if I go back to my old ways I could easily put the weight back on plus some. I like the way I feel now and the way we both look. I have more self confidence then before and people I interact with treat me better.
Sorry I have to toot my own horn every once in awhile to keep me motivated. I will not go back.

Exactly Abalone and Small Fry. I used to be 6'3'' 230lbs at age 17. After one month of working out everyday, doing cardio, and eating healthy, I have dropped alot of fat, and am now gaining quite a bit of muscle with the consumption of more complex carbs, and protein. Complex carbs are key, as it takes more energy to break down complex carbs than it does processed or simple carbs.
I think I am 210lbs now, with hardly any midsection fat, and legs/arms/back of steel. My midsection was my only real trouble area as my legs were solid from snowboarding. I am never going back to laying around and eating like a slob. Hopefully by the summer I will be a spartan lol
Try to make the change! But start small, then work up. Start by first eating healthy, then maybe taking walks, then taking jogs, then going to the gym etc. Since I have been working out I sleep better, and not only wake up earlier, but I feel more refreshed. I have also noticed that over time you start to crave the burn of working out.

Re: Scientists Say Dieting Does Not Work
YA ..............life style change
I eat less animal fat, eggs, chees, milk, beef, mayo, etc
More vegies and fresh fruit
Fish is good but still has fat, aw so what.....
Much less junk food and hardly no fast food
I actually prefer soy milk to cows milk now
Humas is good, as a sanck and on a sandwich
Who says a sandwich has to have meat
Tofu cubes and fresh pear slices for breakfaast has no fat and sticks with me as much as oatmeal or a big 3 egg, sausage, hashbrowns & toast, ( my fav breakfast )True story and it tasts pretty good.
and get a little more exercise
I still eat beef, jsut not often. eggs 1-2 times month as opposed to 3-4 times week.
Once I got my mind right it was easy and pleasant.

Absolutely agree...as long as it is a PB&J or grilled cheese. Otherwise it is just a salad between slices of bread.
You lose weight by out-putting more than you are in-taking. You can do this by drastically reducing your intake which will lead to rapid weight loss and feeling deprived of your #1 comfort, food. Soon the body thinks a famine has come along and starts to cling to every ounce of body weight, trying to survive. The more you starve the more your body fights to retain weight and the more deprived you feel. Somewhere along this continuum, the deprived feeling kicks Will Power's behind. When this happens you can tell because you will find yourself sitting in the middle of the freezer aisle scooping ice cream from multiple cartons of Ben and Jerry's with your fingers while growling at passing customers. Not good.
You could instead make subtle changes to your diet and be conscious of the choices you make. Go from 2% milk to skim or Soy milk, do Subway instead of McD's, fruit instead of chips. A lot of the empty calories we consume are in our drinks. Soda does not quench thirst. It makes you thirstier and starts you on a sugar roller coaster. The average soda has 35-40 grams of carbohydrate and 140 calories. That makes a six pack a day soda habit good for 840 calories and 240 carbos and you haven't taken a bite of real food. Little changes over a long period will result in weight loss that you can take with you. Uping exercise is the key to further weight loss.
Good luck to anyone who is trying to take it off and keep it off.
